This week there were many news in the world of MMORPGs. Four of the biggest genre representatives are getting major updates next week and a new medieval MMORPG started its open alpha.
The highlights of the week:
- All 4 major MMORPGs are receiving updates this week. This includes the August update of Lost Ark on August 24.
- One day earlier, on August 23, Patch 6.2 for Final Fantasy XIV comes and expands the MMORPG with a tropical paradise among other things.
- Also on August 23, Guild Wars 2 starts on Steam and kicks off its 10-year event with lots of new items and gifts.
- On Monday, August 22, Lost Depths, the next update for Elder Scrolls Online, will be released.
The controversy of the week: The huge streamer Asmongold was banned in WoW for alleged real money trading, and then released very quickly again. Players are upset that Twitch and YouTube stars are treated preferentially.
The discussion of the week: World of Warcraft is supposed to give every class a Battle Rez with the Dragonflight expansion, a skill that allows them to resurrect allies in battle. This is not well received by everyone.

What happened with the big MMORPGs:
- In World of Warcraft, a player wanted to create a trade monopoly in the auction house. He bought items for 800,000 gold and immediately regretted it.
- Lost Ark fixes the most annoying bug in weeks, but only a bit. The free power passes are working again, but those who want to pay are still left in the dark. Additionally, the Korean game version shows a new raid (via massivelyop.com).
- Black Desert brings new 3v3 PvP arenas in its latest update (via massivelyop.com).
What happened with the small MMORPGs:
- The new anime MMORPG Tower of Fantasy is kicking off on Twitch and will become the most watched MMORPG there. However, the game has a problem with cheaters that it has not been able to solve yet.
- In Elite Dangerous, players have rediscovered a gas planet that was missing for 7 years. The discoverer did not document where the planet is (via massivelyop.com).
- The Lord of the Rings Online is showing its next 2 zones and giving a glimpse into the future under new management (via massivelyop.com).
- Swords of Legends Online is getting three really hard raids before continuing its story in September (via mmorpg.com).

What happened with the MMORPGs in development?
- The upcoming sandbox MMORPG Fractured Online shows in a new video how it builds its world (via mmorpg.com).
- Untamed Isles wanted to be like Pokemon, but now it has to take heavy hits because it’s betting on crypto.
- Pantheon is considered a PvE hope and was supposed to start a new pre-alpha in September, but this could now be delayed (via mmorpg.com).
- The space MMORPG Dual Universe is leaving its 2-year beta in September and will celebrate its release, even on Steam.
- The medieval MMORPG Past Fate opened its open alpha on Steam. Anyone who wants to participate can request access on the game’s Steam page (via massivelyop.com).
- Identity wanted to make you a drug lord like in Breaking Bad, but then there was 2 years of silence. Now the developers are speaking up again.
