Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was released this summer and was the successor to Pokémon GO. But the game has gone quiet. What is currently happening there?
Wizards Unite was supposed to be Niantic’s next big move, bringing the world of Harry Potter into an AR game. It was released in Germany on June 22 and at least sparked some conversation.
However, the hype around the game did not materialize. Unlike the release of Pokémon GO, there were no streets filled with crowds of hobby wizards this summer.
Now, Wizards Unite has been available for over 4 months and has already gone through various events. We take a look at the game and its current status.
Wizards Unite is good, but the player crowds are missing
What do the player numbers say? There are no precise figures on that. Many interested players may have downloaded the game but did not really stick with it.
In the PlayStore for Android, Wizards Unite has over 5 million downloads and has received 270,000 ratings. In the Apple Store, there are 132,000 ratings. The number of downloads here is not known.
However, if you look around on the street, you rarely see a wizard. While Pokémon trainers are often spotted on the streets, players of Wizards Unite are quite rare.
What is happening in the game right now? Wizards Unite is definitely not boring. Almost every week there are events, similar to Pokémon GO. Recently, there was a small event around Halloween that brought you new encounters.
Each month, the Community Day continues to take place. After initial criticism where many players did not know what to do there, this event is now gaining more and more popularity.
What has changed in the game in the 4 months? The game is by no means forgotten, and the developers are continually adding new features to the wizarding world. Elements from Pokémon GO are also being incorporated, such as the smoke or Adventure Sync.
Recently, Wizards Unite sparked conversation when a start button for fortress battles was announced. Such a feature has been long desired in Pokémon GO.
What do players say about Wizards Unite? Many wizards are also Pokémon trainers. This is evident from the fact that almost every feature and event is compared to Pokémon GO. There are few pure Wizards Unite players, but they are present.
The ratings in the app stores are not bad:
- PlayStore: 3.9 out of 5 stars based on 270,000 ratings
- Apple Store: 4.6 out of 5 stars based on 132,000 ratings
Particularly well-received are the detailed animations. A lot of love has been put into this, and players appreciate it. The varied encounters and the implementation of augmented reality are also well received.
The high data consumption and frequent crashes of the game are criticized. Also, some events can be completed very quickly.
For the future, players hope to access spell energy a bit faster and have a little more variety in daily tasks.
What do you think of Wizards Unite? Are you still actively casting spells or have you deleted the app? Let us know in the comments!
