Conan Exiles has received a fairly large update for its one-year anniversary. Among other things, the game received a new dungeon with an entire city underwater. Particularly here, there are several things to discover.
What kind of city is it? The city is the new dungeon “Sunken City,” which serves as a cult site for Dagon and simultaneously acts as his prison. The city was implemented as a new dungeon with the update for the one-year anniversary.
Here you will encounter many cultists of the ancient god and stumble upon several great things that are worth discovering. We will show you some of the new features that would particularly be worth an expedition underwater.
Tip: Bring some breath potions with you. You will need them.
1. A completely new species: Fishmen
In the Sunken Temple, you will encounter not only human enemies in the form of cultists and priests. There are also entirely new beings and disgusting creeping creatures that oppose you.
The new Fishmen come in several varieties. Some resemble humans with slimy skin and fish eyes but are largely still human. Others look like giant, ugly anglerfish with legs.
A particular large (and fat) anglerfish is one of the bosses of the temple, feasting on the innards of a dead sea creature. Around him, thick, maggot-like worms with sharp teeth appear repeatedly.
According to some stories you learn in the temple, these creatures are a people from Conan Exiles, Lemurians, who supposedly “enhanced” Dagon with his blood.
2. New weapons and recipes
While you explore the temple complex, you will encounter various locations or items with which you can interact. These are often tablets that light up when you approach them.
Most times, you will have to defeat a boss beforehand. However, each time you learn new recipes. Among them are recipes for:
- Lemurian axes and swords
- A legendary trident of Dagon
- Legendary daggers of Dagon
- A legendary shield that looks like a steering wheel
- Improved aloe potions and breath potions (Breath of Dagon, lasts 10 minutes)
- Improved fish and shellfish traps
For the recipes, you will need scales from Dagon. (currently written in German as “Schuppen von Davon”, likely a typo) You will also find these in the Sunken City, where you find the scales on the enemies.
Tip: The recipe for a unique and also somewhat strange item, a broken oar, can be found directly by the ship that takes you to the island. Just interact with the oar next to the ship.
3. A new god
During your visit to the temple, you basically have the god Dagon as your tour guide. Whenever you discover more of the complex, Dagon whispers directly to you in an ancient language, only understandable as subtitles.
Dagon explains to you why he is imprisoned in the city, whom you are fighting against, and who he actually is. It also becomes clear that he is connected to R’lyeh, the home city of the well-known (and feared) Cthulhu. Because Dagon is also one of the Great Old Ones.
When you reach the room with the final boss, the room of the ritual keeper, you can even see Dagon yourself. His head rises from the water’s surface, which presumably represents a wall of his prison.
After you have eliminated all opponents, Dagon thanks you. The fact that Dagon reveals himself and that Fishmen are present in the dungeon somewhat reminds one of Jhebbal Sag from the Midnight Grove with his werewolves. And Jhebbal Sag subsequently received his own religion in Conan Exiles …
4. A wonderful environment with many details
Something that is often overlooked during many dungeon visits is the environment in which you fight. As an underwater dungeon, the Sunken City offers the unique setting of an ocean floor and a sunken temple.
During your dives, you can discover a wonderful, colorful, and bizarre world where dangers lurk in the form of toxic plants and their toxic surroundings. However, the sea around the island looks significantly more fascinating and better elaborated than the lakes and rivers in the Exiled Lands.
Also, the architecture of the temples is unique. It is rather brutally designed, and many drawbridges serve as “room dividers.” But especially the slave cells could serve as a particular building idea for some builders for their camp.
