With a one-week head start from Early Access, it’s clear which 3 weapons dominate in matches at the release of Battlefield 2042. We introduce these weapons to you, share their key pros and cons, and explain how to use them effectively.
You can further modify these weapons with weapon attachments and adapt them to your needs. But be careful: many weapon attachments in Battlefield 2042 currently work differently than you might think.
1. DM7: The versatile precision weapon for all maps
Why is this weapon so good? The DM7 is currently the best weapon in the game. It excels particularly due to its versatility and consistency. Since most engagements in Battlefield 2042 take place at greater distances, its precision and good damage are a significant advantage.
- With the standard loadout, it can kill at most distances with 3 body hits. With a headshot, only one more hit anywhere on the body is needed for the kill.
- Thanks to 15 rounds in the standard magazine, you can take down up to 7 enemies before needing to reload.
- Unlike the SVK (which we will introduce later), it loses very little precision when fired while moving. This allows you to dodge enemy fire while shooting back.
What are the disadvantages of the weapon? The biggest disadvantage of the weapon lies in its semi-automatic nature. If suddenly an enemy is standing next to you, you have a significant disadvantage compared to weapons that can fire many rounds quickly.
Another drawback is that DMRs require very good aim. In the wrong hands, powerful weapons like the DM7 can quickly become useless. Players who prefer fully automatic weapons should particularly look at the next weapon introduced.
How do I use this weapon optimally? While this weapon can be used without issue in most situations of the game, it excels especially at medium distances. With the DM7, you don’t have to stand still and camp; it is suitable for both defensive and offensive play.
However, you should avoid close combat as much as possible. Try to stay in the back row of an advancing squad and apply pressure on enemies from there.
2. PP-29: The best all-round weapon in the game
Why is this weapon so good? The PP-29 is the best submachine gun and the most flexible weapon in the game. It is currently one of the most popular and best weapons in Battlefield 2042. This is partly due to the fact that assault rifles are currently underperforming due to a bloom issue, but the PP-29 also has some inherent advantages.
- As a fully automatic weapon with a large magazine, it is very easy to use. It also forgives poor aim. The PP-29 is strong in close combat.
- Thanks to controllable recoil, it is also good at distances up to 100 m.
- With the standard magazine, it has up to 54 rounds and deals good damage. Therefore, it can easily take out a whole enemy squad without needing to reload. And even the reloading is quick.
What are the disadvantages of the weapon? The poor rate of fire of the PP-29 is generally not a problem in most situations. However, it quickly falls short in close combat against other SMGs and shotguns. Its relatively poor performance in hip fire exacerbates this problem.
Since there are no underbarrel attachments for the PP-29, the weapon hardly changes at all. A laser sight to improve hip fire, for example, is not available.
While the PP-29 has surprisingly high precision at distances, it deals little damage. It frequently occurs that you cannot fully kill your opponents before they can take cover.
How do I use this weapon optimally? The PP-29 is so flexible that it’s hard to use it incorrectly. While it’s not advisable to use it at long distances, it is not completely useless there either. This SMG is the right choice in almost any situation, whether for beginners with poor aim or shooter pros.
However, since you need to play about 15-20 hours before you gain access to the weapon, the PBX-45 is a good alternative at the beginning.
3. SVK: Incredible firepower, but difficult to handle
Why is this weapon so good? This weapon has basically only one real strength, but it is remarkable:
- The SVK always kills with 2 shots—no matter where the bullet hits the enemy; regardless of distance. It deals the same damage to the body as a sniper rifle.
- Its handling and rate of fire are, however, significantly better compared to a sniper.
What are the disadvantages of the weapon? The weapon becomes very imprecise when you move while shooting (via reddit). This may seem like the bloom problem of assault rifles, but it is not. This mechanic is intended to prevent you from being too hard to hit with such a powerful weapon.
Even though its handling and rate of fire are significantly better than snipers, these values are not good compared to the other weapons on the list. With only 5 rounds in the magazine (plus one in the chamber), you need to show nearly perfect aim to use this weapon effectively.
How do I use this weapon optimally? While the PP-29 adapts to the player’s playstyle, the SVK requires you to play the exact playstyle that the weapon demands. Otherwise, it can quickly become very frustrating.
This means that as long as you are patient and shoot at your enemies while standing still, it is an absolute monster. However, as soon as you want to play aggressively in any form, it will quickly let you down. This weapon is perfect for those who want to showcase their aim but do not want to shoot at enemies from hundreds of meters away like snipers. Users of the SVK should defend control points rather than trying to capture them.

If you are looking for good assault rifles, unfortunately, you will have to wait a bit longer. Currently, they are not recommended, which is one of the biggest problems of Battlefield 2042. But the developers say that this is already being worked on.
