In Call of Duty: Warzone, for most players, it’s about victory – the feeling of being better than nearly 150 other players. And while there are many ways to achieve success, there are a few strategies you might want to avoid.
In a Battle Royale, there are rarely friends outside of your own team. In Call of Duty: Warzone, every player you encounter is a potential cause of death. Or another point on the kill counter. But it’s not just kills and the best weapons in the Warzone that are crucial for strong gameplay. The match strategy can also make the difference.
This applies in both positive and negative ways. Today, we would like to provide you with rather poor examples on MeinMMO. We present you with a somewhat humorous list of 3 strategies that you have probably all tried, only to realize that it was nonsense to approach it this way.
1. Camping until the doctor, um, until the circle comes
How does the strategy work? You choose a nice quiet spot within the circle as you jump from the helicopters, knowing that not much is going on there. Grab the 2 or 3 crates you find at that unpopular location and share your loot with the team. Someone might be left with just a pistol – the tactical advantage is significant enough…
Ideally, one of the houses at your deserted location has an upstairs that can only be accessed via a staircase. Position yourself in the house so that you are not visible until an enemy checks the upper floor with their own eyes.
The biggest dangers for this strategy are the gas circle, which unnecessarily shrinks in every match, and the loadout crate. Your crate is important for getting the perk “Ghost.” Ghost turns you into real campers; otherwise, a small heartbeat sensor is enough to make your strategy house of cards collapse. But you’ll have to run across the map for the loadout crate, which you should definitely avoid with this strategy.
Why is this so bad? Everyone knows what you intend to do. Upstairs are probably the most reconnoitered places in Warzone, and every enemy will cautiously make their way forward to avoid falling into the trap. While you might think you have an advantage as a camper, even Warzone’s graphics work against stationary players.
Moreover, the tactic is painfully boring. This leads to weaker concentration. Especially with more active team members like the author, who likes to press 5 buttons while just turning a corner, it’s hard to maintain camping. Waiting for several minutes on a roof without being able to go to the window is almost torture for such players. A quick peek through the window at a weak moment can ruin 15 minutes of safe waiting on the roof when hyped enemies approach your house.
If a fight comes – and that unfortunately happens in almost every match – you won’t be really ready. The opponents have split 15 kills since the start and are eager for the next batch. As a camper, you’d rather bookmark on your phone than secure headshots.
2. Silence to understand each other better?
How does the strategy work? Don’t overwhelm your teammates with unnecessary calls or pings, but try to be the hero of your squad. If you spot an enemy and the rest of the team has no idea yet – go for it! Well… on the enemy.
Why should you disrupt your squad’s plan? Instead, you can easily secure a kill and bask in the praise of your teammates. This boosts your confidence for the rest of the match, improves your K/D, and increases your status within your team: a win-win-win situation.
Why is this so bad? Firstly, things usually turn out differently and secondly, than you think. If you’re playing in team modes, you should coordinate with each other as much as possible and communicate particularly well about such “excursions”.
You might have only seen one enemy. But if you chase the enemy, suddenly the whole team is in front of you. It’s better to plan a flanking maneuver with one of your teammates and secure your advance. Use your team’s positions to gain more control over the situation. Be the bait sometimes, not just the predator.
Maybe some players get along better in silence. But in most cases, you can only secure victory together.
3. Landing in no man’s land
How does the strategy work? Choose a worthwhile location when you jump, as far away from the circle as possible.
Maybe there are still one or two reconnaissance missions to gather information about the upcoming circles – but that’s secondary. It’s more about looting as much as possible and staying in the game as long as you can before the chance arises for enemies to kick you out of the match.
As the circle gets closer, move step by step with the circle towards the endgame and hope that you can make it from the military base to the southern part of Boneyard without enemy interference. That easily secures you 10th place. Minimum.
Why is this so bad? Like as a camper, you are not in sync when you encounter a team. The relaxed, shared time during the stroll through Verdansk may lead to stimulating conversations, but certainly not to a heroic victory in a Warzone. A team that plays well will end your daydreams of success in seconds.
In addition, there’s the constant pressure from the gas circle. Generally, it can be helpful to work with the gas. You then have a safe area from which you don’t have to expect enemies. However, it also means less room for escape or a wide run to flank the enemy.
The strategy can sometimes indeed have a certain charm. But you limit your options and let creativity be used more for a mischievous joke rather than a strong gameplay showcase.
A Battle Royale like Warzone offers a different “flow” with each round, requiring a different tactic in every match. The 3 strategies have certainly also brought a soldier to victory at some point. But often it’s the more engaged players, who chase opponents and communicate a lot, that achieve success.
