Apex Legends has received a new server update that addresses some annoying issues. The great thing is: You don’t even have to download it. It’s now simply active.
What’s in the update: The new update, which was deployed to the servers on October 17, includes three changes:
- Nerfs to the Charge Rifle (energy rifle)
- Fix for ring damage
- Removal of quips on the drop ship
Changes to the Charge Rifle were already announced in advance. Players initially suspected a nerf. That has now actually happened, although the weapon’s damage itself has not been touched. The update is a server update and therefore does not require a download.
Adjustments to Charge Rifle, Quips and Ring
What changes with the Charge Rifle: The latest weapon from Apex Legends, the Charge Rifle, is receiving adjustments to magazine size and ammunition consumption. The magazines are now larger, however, each shot now consumes three rounds:
- Standard magazine: 9 rounds (3 shots)
- Extended magazine level 1: 12 rounds (4 shots)
- Extended magazine level 2: 15 rounds (5 shots)
- Extended magazine level 3: 18 rounds (6 shots)
The weapon’s damage itself has not been changed and it still does not lose damage at greater distances (“damage drop-off”). This means that while the Charge Rifle is now somewhat weaker, it is still not completely unplayable. It should now be more in line with the revised weapons.
The changes to the quips: Since Season 3 of Apex Legends, there has been the option to equip quips. Quips are short text lines spoken by the legends that other players in the vicinity can hear.
However, the problem with the quips was that they could also be heard on the drop ship. Players quickly discovered this and exploited it to annoy all teammates before the match actually started.
Respawn has now removed the ability to use quips on the ship. The landing will be a bit quieter again.
Changes to the ring: A minor issue that has frustrated some players is the incorrectly calculated damage of the ring. After Season 3 started, it happened that players took damage from the ring as it appeared, even before they were caught by it.
This was a bug that has now been fixed. The ring should now only deal damage correctly if you are actually in it.
