Currently, there is a flood of new information regarding the future of New World. In addition to the new major patch in November, changes to the combat system are also planned. We at MeinMMO will present them to you.
What changes are planned for the combat system? New World relies on an action combat system where you have to aim and dodge actively. However, there are some hurdles.
The animations for attacks and abilities are quite long, and there are often problems because players intended to perform an action, but it wasn’t registered, and the fight continues with the next action. This often happens during weapon swaps.
However, by November, the fights in New World should feel smoother. There are three major adjustments planned for this:
- The weapon swap should be improved
- The timing of attacks should become clearer
- Canceling animations should become more consistent
Officially, it is said in the forum that “Weapon swap, dodging, and attack inputs are an important part of the combat system” and will therefore be overhauled.
Together with the changes to the combat system, a major balance update is also planned, adjusting a variety of abilities. However, there is no concrete information on this yet.
When will these changes arrive? The changes are planned for “the upcoming updates.” Since a small patch is released every week, the changes to the combat system could come as early as November.
Also in November, the first major patch is expected, which we have presented to you here:
Combat should feel smoother and more responsive in the future
What do the planned changes specifically look like? In the New World forum, there is a post by DaveNW, one of the developers. He explains what exactly the problem with weapon swapping is and promises that the timeframe for a swap will be extended:
We are currently working on the responsiveness during weapon swaps and ensuring that it is consistent across all attacks, as we want the weapon swap to be an integral and smooth part of combat. It often happens that you think you swapped weapons, but instead attack with the currently equipped weapon. We are working to fix these situations and extend the timeframe in which you can switch weapons.
Regarding the timing of attacks and canceling animations, he states that they want to make things clearer. Some animations can currently be canceled, but others cannot.
However, it remains unclear whether in the future you will be able to cancel all animations or perhaps none at all:
In addition to weapon swaps, we are also examining the windows for canceling dodges and the timing of attack inputs during the recovery of all our attacks. There are some inconsistencies that are unintended. For example, you can break out of some animations after casting, but not from others, and you can execute heavy attacks from the aftercasts of some abilities, but not from all abilities. Our goal is to ensure that there are consistent input windows for all weapons and abilities.
New World announces many new features and bug fixes for November
In addition to the changes to the combat system mentioned here, the developers have already announced some other new features:
- With the major patch in November, the trading posts will be linked, with some fearing that this will destroy the economy
- Adjustments to expeditions are planned to ensure they yield more coins while making the entry orbs cheaper
- Adjustments to PvP are planned. Content such as wars and outpost rushes should run more smoothly, and there will be more luck when flagged for PvP
Additionally, the developers released a patch last week that was well received by many players. It fixed some significant bugs, adjusted buggy perks, and also tweaked the costs of coins and Azoth. You can find the patch notes here:
