From May 10 to May 16, players could experience the new MMORPGs Elyon, PSO 2 New Genesis, and Bless Unleashed for the first time. New World also showcased gameplay from the dungeons. We at MeinMMO summarize all the important news of the week.
The highlights of the week:
- Elyon was playable last weekend. We wrote a detailed report about it: The new MMORPG Elyon will not be a flop like Bless, but also not a huge hit.
- Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis started its first beta. The new version is receiving positive feedback in early threads on reddit, particularly praising the combat system and improved movement (via reddit).

Additionally, we from MeinMMO were able to try out the first dungeon in New World and were positively surprised.
The hot topic of the week: New World is getting a shop and boosters and quality of life items are planned for the future. This did not sit well with everyone and even led to accusations of pay-to-win.
The discussion of the week: WoW Classic has set the prices for character boosts and the deluxe edition quite high. Many players did not like this. However, Blizzard has since backed down and reduced the prices.
Final Fantasy XIV unveils new expansion and release date
This week in the major MMORPGs:
- Fan Fest took place for Final Fantasy XIV. The new job Reaper and the male Viera were introduced. Finally, the release date for the new expansion Endwalker was revealed.
- WoW announced new rewards for Torghast with patch 9.1. Also, the biggest Twitch streamer for the game, Asmongold criticized it for wasting time.
- Guild Wars 2 released a new balance patch on Tuesday (via Guildnews). It also introduced a statue in the game that is meant to commemorate the late musician Stan LePard.
- In Black Desert, the finals of the class championship in PvP are taking place this weekend (via BDO).
- ESO published an overview of events happening in 2021. Furthermore, we at MeinMMO are starting our first guides on Blackwood, beginning with unlocking the companions.
This week in the smaller MMORPGs:
- NCSoft’s quarterly report shows once again that mobile MMORPGs are significantly more profitable than their PC counterparts. However, new games have also been promised that will cover all three platforms – PC, console, and mobile.
- A player is attempting to revive Allods Online single-handedly. He is even giving away paid subscriptions to random players.
- Blade & Soul received the update 12.1, which brought a new dungeon, new events, and rewards (via Blade & Soul).
- SoulWorker, a Korean MMORPG, was recently taken off Steam by its publisher. Now the Korean developer Lion Games has released it themselves (via MassivelyOP).
This week in MMORPGs in development:
- Swords of Legends Online revealed details about the beta. It starts on May 21. Additionally, a first look at the dungeons was given in a livestream (via Twitch).
- New World released a major alpha update besides information about the shop, focusing on additional dungeons for the MMO.
- Crowfall has now transitioned to a model where players can play beta for free until release with a discount code.
- Ashes of Creation has delayed its alpha once again. It is now set to begin in July instead of June.
- Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has started a discussion about alpha 1 and revealed initial information about it (via MassivelyOP).
