This week, 3 new MMORPGs were introduced that couldn’t be more different. One focuses on pirates, one on numerous features, and one is being developed in collaboration with Twitch streamers. Additionally, there were many news items this week related to WoW, a scandal in FFXIV, and New World announced a new update for next week.
The highlights of the week:
- The streamer group OTK, led by Asmongold and Mizkif, is working on a new online RPG using Unreal Engine 5. They are now looking for players for their playtests. In addition to the streamers, former WoW developers Chris Kaleki and Douglas Frazer are also involved in the implementation.
- Uncharted Waters Origins is a new MMORPG on Steam and is set to be released in 2023. Highlights include the huge open world, pirate ships, and well-known historical figures that you are supposed to encounter.
- The Quinfall impressed in its first trailer with strong gameplay and many features. It is expected to be released on Steam in 2023.
The scandal of the week:In Final Fantasy XIV, the best raiders in the world had their rewards taken away. The developers cited the use of unauthorized addons as the reason. This has never happened before in the MMORPG.

New World brings new leaderboards, Lost Ark a new class earlier
What happened in the major MMORPGs:
- In WoW, 13 specializations will be buffed on February 8, but two healers will be nerfed. Additionally, Blizzard announced an adjustment that will make a rare mount much more common. Blizzard also made headlines by having to pay 35 million dollars in fines due to the sexism scandal.
- The head of ESO announced plans to finally solve the biggest problem for EU players. We also adjusted the calendar for 2023 events. The new DLC Scribes of Fate has also been introduced to the test servers.
- Lost Ark has revised its roadmap and is now bringing a new class out a month earlier.
- Guild Wars 2 released a new patch that allows Jade Bots outside the new expansion and has introduced new achievements for WvW (via GW2).
What happened in the smaller MMORPGs:
- New World announced its new leaderboards for February 8 (via New World). We also compiled the best DPS builds for dungeons.
- In 2019, the MMORPG Inferna was released, which was referred to as Metin 3. We looked into what has become of the game.
- YouTuber TheLazyPeon has created a tier list of MMORPGs.
- A player farmed the same minigame in Old School RuneScape for 8 years to set a crazy record.
- DC Universe released a small patch with new UI elements and a new lockbox (via MassivelyOP).
- NCSoft West (Blade & Soul, Lineage 2, Aion in America) has laid off 20% of its staff. However, this is not expected to affect the release of Throne and Liberty (via MassivelyOP).
- Zenith, the VR MMORPG, is launching its alpha for PS VR2 and has announced a new update with housing (via Zenith).
- The sandbox MMORPG Fractured has gone offline as announced. The return is planned for March, the CEO stated in Discord.

What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- A new pixel-art MMORPG called Orna has been announced (via Orna).
- Scars of Honor, a new MMORPG that aims to be free to play and strongly resembles WoW, talked about engine and monetization in a new video (via YouTube).
