Kakao Games, the company behind games like ArcheAge and Elyon, is bringing three more MMORPGs to the West in 2022. All three will be released for PC, but also for mobile devices. We at MeinMMO will reveal what these games are and when they will be released.
What are these games?
- A new MMORPG with a Viking theme is coming with Odin: Valhalla Rising. It has already celebrated huge successes in Korea.
- A new title from XL Games, most likely ArcheWorld. This will be an MMORPG focusing on NFTs.
- Ares: Rise of Guardians is a sci-fi MMORPG that somewhat resembles Destiny.
When is the release of these games planned? All three titles are expected to be released in the second half of 2022 in the West. In Korea, Odin: Valhalla Rising is already playable. The other two titles are still awaited there.
In addition to the three MMORPGs, early access for Dysterra, a survival shooter, is also planned. This is also expected to take place in the second half of 2022.
How big is Kakao Games? Kakao Games has made a lot of money in recent quarters, especially through Odin: Valhalla Rising. They acquired the developer of ArcheAge, XL Games, in 2021 and are only slightly behind Krafton (PUBG, PUBG Mobile) and NCSoft (Lineage, Aion, Guild Wars 2) in terms of revenue.
Odin is a huge success in Korea
What kind of game is this? Odin: Valhalla Rising is an MMORPG inspired by Nordic mythology. You will encounter well-known figures like Odin, Freyja, or Thor and be able to visit iconic places like Yggdrasil and Niflheim.
- There are four different classes: Warrior, Rogue, Priest, and Sorceress.
- The game features a Holy Trinity.
- There are various movement options, such as swimming and climbing.
- The open world does not have loading screens.
- There are mounts that can also fly.
- PvP battles play an important role.
Odin generated over 11 million euros in Korea within 48 hours of release.
The release was originally planned for 2021 but has been postponed. It is now expected to take place in the second half of 2022.
A new ArcheAge with NFTs and cryptocurrency
What kind of game is this? Archeworld is a new MMORPG based on ArcheAge. The game is set to be released for both PC and mobile devices and focuses on Play2Earn. You are supposed to be able to earn money by playing.
- According to the latest whitepaper, it sounds like the game will be entirely based on ArcheAge.
- You should be able to assemble your class from 286 different combos.
- You will be able to secure houses, pets, mounts, vehicles, and equipment as NFTs and trade them using cryptocurrency.
- The developers are using BORA as their cryptocurrency. In-game, you can earn the currency Archeum, which can then be exchanged for BORA.
Currently, it is not entirely clear whether ArcheWorld will replace the originally announced ArcheAge 2.
Ares: Rise of Guardians looks a lot like Destiny
What is this game about? Ares: Rise of Guardians appears as an action-packed sci-fi game in the first trailer. It is supposed to focus on MMORPG content, but not much is known about the game so far.
In an initial CGI teaser, a futuristic city is seen that is being laid to waste. Cool characters zoom around on jet bikes while armored robot troops continue to advance. We have embedded the teaser here:
