But there are games that place so little value on PvP that it’s practically irrelevant. For all of you who want to focus entirely on PvE and do not want to be forced into PvP, we have presented three games here that treat PvP rather reluctantly.
What is PvP anyway? PvP stands for “Player vs. Player”, meaning the combat of players against other players. In contrast, there’s the so-called “PvE”, which means “Player vs. Environment”, i.e., players against the environment. Here, the combat of players against monsters and other challenges controlled by AI is meant.
PvP is particularly popular in MMORPGs with an open world, and many players appreciate the ongoing competition. However, other players prefer it peaceful and seek online games that come with as little PvP as possible and do not force anyone into combat with other players.
How did we select? In fact, there seem to be no relevant MMORPGs that contain no PvP at all. However, there are various games that treat PvP very reluctantly or incorporate it in a purely optional manner, appealing to those who refuse PvP.

What kind of game is this? The Secret World Legends is a relaunch of the MMORPG The Secret World from 2012. The new version has been completely overhauled, including the combat system.
In The Secret World, you are not in fantasy worlds, but in our world. However, everything appears fine only at first glance, as terrible secrets lurk beneath the surface. The entire setting strongly resembles the genre of “cosmic horror” and is inspired, among other things, by H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu works.
In the game, you embody a member of a paranormal fighting force that delves into the mysteries and contends with various dark powers.
What are the features? The biggest feature of Secret World is that it plays more like a mystery game in parts. There are sometimes very long dialogues before quests that often present creepy stories.
Additionally, there are extremely tricky puzzles, which can sometimes only be solved through extensive research on the Internet. The game even provides its own web browser! During these puzzle quests, Secret World feels almost like an interactive novel à la Dan Brown.
How much PvP is in the game? In fact, the PvP mode in The Secret World is so irrelevant that it can be completely overlooked. MeinMMO editor Jürgen Horn only learned about PvP in Secret World while researching this article, although he has extensively played the game.
If you really want to engage in PvP, you can visit a so-called fight club in one of the three main locations and duke it out in battles of up to 20 players in 2 teams.
There are also larger battles where 5vs5vs5 players fight over mystical locations like Stonehenge. In return for the effort, there are bags with equipment, but since PvP is generally not enjoyable for most players, it is rarely played. According to users on reddit, PvP players also prefer to end their combat quickly so that the misery can be over soon.
Who is Secret World ideal for? If you really only want to do PvE and enjoy some excellently told scary stories, you should not miss The Secret World. The game absolutely focuses on PvE, story, and a creepy atmosphere.
The PvP mode, which probably had to be included in the game, is absolutely negligible and is rarely played. Thus, The Secret World is ideal for anyone looking for an unusual MMORPG with a strong focus on PvE and story.
