The first months in FIFA 22 are over and now the year 2022 is at the starting line. Especially the Ultimate Team mode has been regularly supplied with new content so far. What could FUT still change in the coming year?
Ultimate Team is probably the biggest mode in FIFA 22. There are regularly new cards, events, and weekly challenges to keep players engaged.
This year has seen a few innovations in FUT compared to its predecessor in FIFA 21. For example:
- a new Weekend League system with fewer games on weekends. And just recently, the Weekend League qualification has been improved, which would have otherwise landed in this list.
- the ability to regularly view preview packs from the start of the season without spending coins.
- An overhauled Division Rivals system.
However, while these changes have been largely positively received, there have also been a few things that frustrated players in Ultimate Team and that FIFA 22 should definitely improve next year. Here are 3 of them.
Fewer weird bugs
What was the problem? There were multiple instances in Ultimate Team 2021 where things just didn’t work as planned. This started back in October when the red cards from the Weekend League rewards suddenly became tradable and ended up on the transfer market.
Additionally, there were other issues like:
- The Hero card of Joe Cole, which disrupted matchmaking
- Or the Next Generation packs, which contained a wrong Mbappé
Furthermore, there were also errors during the Versus event, when the wrong cards were in packs. Such errors caused players to wait for equalizers, leading to frustration.
Additionally, there were small issues, such as the incorrect display of special cards in matches, where no player image was visible. FIFA 22 should definitely work on such things.
Improved and reliable gameplay
What is the problem? Overall, there is much good in the gameplay of FIFA 22 this year, but some things can be frustrating – this is something that’s repeatedly stressed in the FIFA subreddit. This includes instances where player switching just doesn’t seem to work in some matches, even though you’re doing everything as usual, and yet the wrong player is always selected.
Another often-discussed case can be seen here in this video on reddit:
In this instance, despite successful tackles, you simply can’t get to the ball and it just rebounds back to the opponent.
The strange thing is that such problems don’t occur consistently, but instead crop up unpredictably. This needs to be addressed urgently.
More exciting, creative events
What is the problem? While well-known events like Rulebreakers or the “Team of the Group Stage” were well received by the community, newcomers like “Signature Signings”, “Numbers Up”, and particularly “Versus” had a somewhat tougher reception among some players.
The criticism: Events often featured uninspired or well-known cards that simply got a boost to arbitrary stats. The “Versus” event was even anticipated with excitement, as the prospect of “different versions of the same card” in the Fire and Ice versions was indeed interesting. In the end, the cards were simply too similar to each other, and the actual appeal of the event was lost.
A welcome exception this year was the current “Winter Wildcards” event. Here, not only was there a strong promo team, but also unusual player SBCs aplenty as well as a new swap system where you can earn rewards. Winter Wildcards actually motivates to check back regularly for what’s new, and it genuinely feels like an “event” that goes beyond just a pure promo team.
Ultimate Team should orient itself to this in 2022 and offer more varied events to keep the excitement high.
