Savathûn (Destiny 2)
Who is she? Savathûn is known in Destiny 2 as the Witch Queen and is the sister of Oryx, the King of the Taken, as well as Xivu Arath, the Goddess of War. Oryx was one of the main villains in the first Destiny.
Since the death of Oryx, Savathûn has been pulling the strings in Destiny as the new main antagonist.
Like Oryx, Savathûn is a member of the “Hive,” a bizarre species of creatures that appear like space demons.
As one of the highest specimens of the Hive, Savathûn is a kind of goddess for her people and resembles a mix of a bony, undead monster with three eyes and a moth.
What is her story? The story of Savathûn is extremely complex and would exceed the scope of this article. In short, she has been pulling the strings in the background for over 7 years and has been involved in almost all significant events in Destiny.
For unlike the brute Oryx, Savathûn usually avoids direct confrontation and relies on a vast network of deception and intrigue to achieve her mysterious goals.
Her immense magical powers were until recently derived from a Hive worm that lived as a symbiont within her. However, since the worm also posed a danger to her, she eventually got rid of it with the help of Queen Mara Sov and was finally able to advance her true plans.

What makes her remarkable? When delving into the lore of Destiny 1 and 2, one eventually uncovers Savathûn. The Witch Queen is by no means a randomly introduced villain meant to evoke the legendary boss Oryx.
Rather, the overarching story surrounding Savathûn and her plans seems to be leading to the grand finale of the Destiny story and many holes in the narrative are currently being filled by Savathûn’s plans.
It seemingly has always been Savathûn’s plan, being behind numerous events in the game and even once strolling through the streets of the Last City.
Shortly before the release of the expansion “The Witch Queen” she even cheekily tweeted and challenged the players.
Savathûn is thus an essential component of the grand Destiny story and everything that happens seems to have been planned from the beginning. And in the end, you might even feel remorse for having done away with her, as she apparently was not even truly your enemy.
The future in Destiny 2 will show whether the Guardians will have to grant the former villain a comeback.
