For almost two weeks, the Galar forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have been causing trouble in Pokémon GO. But they are really difficult to catch.
How can you catch the monsters? On the night of July 26, 2022, “daily adventure incense” was released. This sends trainers on 15-minute exploration trips, where ideally, they can encounter rare monsters.
The biggest carrot in front of you is the Galar forms of the three legendary Kanto birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Currently, they can only be discovered during adventure incense walks. But: Even that is already very difficult.
So far, there is no guaranteed way to encounter the birds with the incense – you need luck. So it is very possible that you have not encountered any of the three to this day, even if you have been using the incense daily.
But even if one of the monsters does spawn, you shouldn’t hope too much to be able to add it to your collection. Because the beasts really want to stay rare in the ball.
“I didn’t realize you could actually catch them”
How difficult is the catch? In the Pokémon GO subreddit “TheSilphRoad” (via reddit), a graphic from GamePress is currently being discussed. According to GamePress, the birds have a catch chance of only 0.3 percent and furthermore a flee rate of 90%.
This means: It is very likely that the bird will not stay in the ball and will look for a way out right after breaking out.
Furthermore, GamePress has calculated what the chances look like when using a Ultra Ball, a golden razz berry, a curveball, and a Platinum medal – so ideal catching conditions.
The result looks like this:
If you throw a really good “Excellent throw” with the smallest circle possible, the chance is slightly higher than with a bad throw – but still not high. The best chance you actually have is when you encounter a really, really weak specimen of the three birds. Because the lower the level, the higher the chance of success.
For an Articuno at the lowest level, for example, you can apparently achieve a perfect throw under ideal conditions with a chance of 35%. That is still not much, but at least more than 0.3%.
However, you first have to find such a low-leveled legendary Pokémon – not to mention that they are hardly appearing anyway.
What players are saying: In the discussion, some trainers talk about their experiences so far. Overall, there are many who still haven’t seen any of the birds – and on the other hand, few who can actually report a catch.
- User “MrMoogle314” found a 127-CP Moltres and met all the ideal conditions. The monster fled anyway (via reddit).
- “I had a Zapdos with 44 CP that I fortunately caught,” user Ballthax13 had more success (via reddit).
- “The most important insight is that you shouldn’t stress if you don’t see them or they run away, and just wait for them to appear in raids. They are not really meant to be caught in the wild at these rates,” believes user “aznknight613” (via reddit).
- “Honestly, I didn’t realize you could actually catch them,” says another user (via reddit).
Another user emphasizes that the difficult catching conditions have now spoiled his adventure incense: “I understand that they are rare and hard to catch. But why do they have to exaggerate EVERYTHING?” criticizes the user (via reddit): “The whole idea with the incense was great. I even felt like going for a walk. But this is ridiculous.”
On the other hand, there are also some trainers who have managed to catch at least one of the birds – and are very happy about their luck. In addition, there are also other monsters in the incense that are worth catching. Some trainers already proudly showed off several days after the release of the item .
But even here, luck is required. What do you currently think about the incense feature and the legendary birds? Does it work for you, or would you wish for an adjustment? Tell us in the comments!
