Some actions in World of Warcraft feel cut off. We are talking about 3 characters that urgently need to make a return.
For about half a year now, the current expansion World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been running and has introduced many new characters. Major personalities like the Jailer, the Winter Queen, and the Archon, as well as numerous smaller NPCs that enrich the WoW cosmos. There was also a reunion with some characters that players had almost given up on. In the Shadowlands, there are also cult characters like Kael’thas, Lady Vashj, or Ysera waiting.
There are a number of important characters from whom we haven’t heard for a while, even though they were significant to the story in recent years. That’s why we’re talking about the 3 characters that should slowly reappear in WoW.
Khadgar – the Super Mage of Azeroth
Players first encountered Khadgar in the Burning Crusade expansion, when he served as a quest giver in Shattrath. A few years later, he became an increasingly important character in the story. In Warlords of Draenor, he became crucial. He led the fight against Gul’dan and the Iron Horde in various areas and helped players craft a legendary ring.
He was similarly important in Legion, as he took on the leadership of the mages of Dalaran and fought on several fronts against the demons of the Burning Legion. He was involved everywhere – as befits a Guardian of Tirisfal, entrusted with the protection of the entire planet.
Players often nicknamed him “Dadgar”; partly because he always takes such good care of the players and partly because he cracks plenty of “dad jokes” in the form of bad puns.
In Battle for Azeroth, he had virtually no appearance, and even now in Shadowlands, the current Guardian of Tirisfal has yet to be seen.
It is puzzling where the good man with the bad jokes has disappeared to. As a fan favorite, he should definitely make a return. Perhaps the last party in Karazhan just didn’t do him any good…
Yrel – Light-Obsessed Draenei from Another World
Perhaps some of you still remember the controversial finale of Warlords of Draenor. Here, strange alliances were suddenly formed, as the Draenei under Yrel’s leadership allied with the Orcs. This was already a bit odd back then and still is today.
The cinematic ended with the promise that they would “be here when help is needed”.
This help apparently wasn’t necessary to fight the Burning Legion – and even now, there seems to be little interest in calling Yrel into play.
However, we know that Draenor has dramatically changed in the years since our departure. The recruitment quest of the Mag’har Orcs paints a grim picture of Draenor. After the heroes and Azerothians left the world, the Light increasingly overtook it. Under the leadership of the Draenei, the Orcs were first voluntarily and then forcibly subjected to the Light and “reprogrammed”. The last remaining Mag’har then come to Azeroth before the supposedly last portal to Draenor closes.
It is quite possible that by now, Yrel has markedly expanded her “reign of terror” and has become so fanatic that one day, she might even serve as an antagonist.
Perhaps Blizzard simply wants to make a bigger deal out of the whole “time travel parallel dimension” topic, which caused quite a bit of confusion. But it would be a shame to let this character completely disappear into oblivion.
Medivh – The Last Guardian … before the Next Guardian
Medivh is also a powerful mage – or at least he was. The good man has actually been dead for quite some time, but that hasn’t stopped him from occasionally making appearances. His essence – or his soul – seems to still be bound to Azeroth or at least the tower Karazhan.
During his lifetime, however, he was not only a guardian but also corrupted by Sargeras’ essence. Medivh was the one who opened the Dark Portal from Azeroth, allowing the Horde to invade the world and set the events of Warcraft I in motion. This is the basis for almost the entire Warcraft universe.
Only during the Legion expansion did a small conversation take place between the ghost of Medivh and Khadgar. The dungeon Karazhan was reintroduced at that time.
In the end, Medivh explained to his former student that he had “something very important” to take care of. He must address something that would overshadow the current threat from the Legion. Back then, one couldn’t imagine what could be worse than a large-scale attack from the Burning Legion – today we know about the Jailer.
However, Medivh hasn’t played any role since then. Whether he is currently trying to tackle the problems in the Shadowlands or preparing for an even greater conflict remains to be seen.
Which characters would you like to see return in WoW soon? Whose story interests you, and whose plot do you think should continue?
