What did he do? In the Subreddit “Am I Overreacting?” (translated: Am I overreacting?) a woman reported that her fiancé took $600 from their emergency fund and spent it on the Gacha game Genshin Impact.
She explained that she would work 55 hours a week, while her partner made money as an Uber driver. The couple lived “paycheck to paycheck.” She also shared screenshots of their message history.

Here’s how it went down: The screenshots show that the fiancé swiped $600 from a credit card to pull for rare characters in Genshin Impact. He apparently had his sights set on Furina. However, the money was meant for emergency repairs on the couple’s car.
However, the man is unrepentant: he is 29 years old and can decide for himself what to buy. He doesn’t need his partner’s permission for that. He goes so far as to accuse his partner of being abusive and possibly a narcissist.
Only when the woman threatens to dispute the charge, which could lead to a ban on the Genshin account, does he change his strategy and apologize for his behavior. He also offers to borrow the money from a friend and pay it back to his partner.
On Reddit, the post garnered more than 66,000 upvotes and 20,000 comments. It apparently also caught the attention of Twitch streamer Charles “Critikal” White, who mocked it in front of 2.8 million viewers on YouTube.
These are the consequences: The 29-year-old now has to endure not only the ridicule of the internet but also lost his fiancée, as she confirmed in an update to the community’s great applause (via Reddit).
She actually received the money. With that, she settled the credit card and closed the account. However, her ex-fiancé’s Genshin account remained untouched. He is probably still playing from his parents’ house.
