The Berlin streamer Elias “EliasN97″ Nerlich rose to the top of German Twitch in 2022, dethroning the previous number 1, Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris. Now, he has set his sights on the record of another German streamer.
What record did EliasN97 break? On the night of August 29, the streamer set a new record for the most simultaneous subscriptions on German Twitch. The previous record of 70,000 subs was set by Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler in 2021 and held since then.
EliasN97 surpassed the Hamburger and currently stands at 71,016 active subscriptions (as of August 29, 2023, 11:10 via Twitchtracker).
Additionally, the 25-year-old is currently the most-watched streamer in the world. In terms of watch time, he leaves international stars like Tarik, Ibai, and Gaules behind (via sullygnome).
Record with spicy chips and stinky fish
How did he do it? EliasN97 has been running a subscription marathon since August 13, meaning a continuous stream. With such a marathon stream, Ludwig set a worldwide record of 283,002 subs in 2021, which was then broken in February 2023 by another subathon.
During a subathon, each subscription extends the time the streamer remains on air.
Some believe that the records set in such marathon streams do not really count. After all, the legendary Fortnite streamer Ninja originally set his record without any special subscription incentives.
EliasN97, who is currently recovering from a torn ligament, offers his viewers a varied program during the marathon stream. He has brought in mentalist Timon Krause, who has also elicited intimate secrets from Reved.
A special highlight for the viewers was a truly nasty challenge, as the streamer, together with his friends, took on not only the currently popular “Hot Chip” challenge but also another dubious culinary experience.
The Swedish sour herring “Surströmming” is known for its intense and extremely unpleasant smell for many people. Up to 140,000 viewers watched as EliasN97 made his friend, content creator Willy, suffer, as he had to eat the “stinky fish” (via sullygnome).
The associated clip should only be watched if you are insensitive to vomiting sounds (via TikTok). The sub marathon of EliasN97 is still ongoing, so it remains to be seen what the streamer has planned for his viewers.
Trymacs will likely cope with the loss of his record, as the 29-year-old is probably busy with other things at the moment. He has just returned from the struggle for survival in the Canadian wilderness and brought back special news:
