The best buddies in Pokémon GO
This is generally important regarding buddies: Since the big update of the buddy feature, your buddy has gained further functions. He is no longer just a supplier of candies, but becomes stronger in battle if you have leveled him up to the best buddy.

Milza family: One of the most popular Pokémon as a buddy is Milza. This Pokémon is currently among the rarest, and every candy is worth its weight in gold. Its evolution Maxax is among the best attackers of type Dragon. At least one good specimen would be worth it.
So make sure to secure at least 125 candies, and ideally even a few more, so you can level them up.
Flapteryx and Galapaflos: The two fossil Pokémon from Gen 5 are also quite rare. Although neither monster is particularly useful in raids or PvP mode, you should at least gather the 50 candies for their evolutions.

Lichtel family: It’s similar to Kapuno here. Lichtel is somewhat more common and has appeared in some events, like Halloween, but it still remains a rare sight in Pokémon GO.
Its evolution Skelabra is among the best attackers of type Fire and Ghost. It’s worth having several specimens of Skelabra. Every candy is thus important.
Flampion family: This Pokémon family is somewhat underestimated. Flampivian is among the best Fire attackers, and outside of eggs, Flampion is extremely rare. So secure every candy you can get.

Meltan family: If you can’t get a wonder box because you or friends don’t own a Nintendo Switch or Let’s GO, Eevee/Pikachu, then you should definitely use Meltan as a buddy.
Without an event, you’ll need to walk 20 kilometers, but you also need 400 candies for its evolution. So be diligent in collecting candies. Moreover, Melmetal is really strong in the PvP league and dominates the tier lists for the leagues.
Legendary Pokémon: Choosing a buddy with legendary Pokémon isn’t quite so easy. Without an event, you have to walk 20 kilometers for just one candy, and that’s not worth it for many players.
