The YouTuber Corpse Husband (23) achieved his big breakthrough on YouTube in just 3 months in 2020 after 5 years on the platform. The small channel of the YouTuber grew from a mini-channel to a place visited by 6 million people in no time thanks to the gaming hit Among Us. However, the YouTuber suffers from a chronic illness. This is partly responsible for his success, but it could now end his career as a YouTuber.
What was the breakthrough for Corpse Husband? Corpse Husband uploaded his first videos on YouTube in 2015 when he was 17 years old. He occasionally posted horror stories that had been sent to him by viewers. Corpse Husband remained anonymous, but his deep, resonant voice captivated fans. They enjoyed having him read them scary stories.
With the content that came relatively rarely, there wasn’t much progress on YouTube. The channel grew, but at a relatively low level. Around 10,000 subscribers joined every month. The channel achieved between 1 million and 4 million video views.
This changed in September 2020. Overnight, “Corpse Husband” became a YouTube star. He started streaming the social game “Among Us” live on YouTube, created videos about it, and also participated in the big event with politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Among Us turns niche streamers into million stars on YouTube
Corpse came into contact with the gaming clique around Valkyrae. With Among Us, several streamers became really big starting in late summer 2020.
He played with PewDiePie or with newcomers like Sykkuno, who rose just as rapidly as Corpse himself. Corpse stood out with his deep, pleasant voice and smart plays in Among Us, especially when he was the villain, the Impostor.
Among Us played into Corpse Husband’s hands: He could score points in the discussion parts of the game with his great voice and by weaving clever intrigues.
In 3 months from September 2020 to November 2020, the channel of “Corpse Husband” grew by 6 million followers. He was no longer getting 3 million video views per month, but 40 million.
Corpse Husband remains a “faceless YouTuber”: He does not show his face.
YouTuber suffers from chronic illness
What is tragic: Corpse Husband cannot enjoy his massive success. He suffers from a chronic illness that restricts him.
On January 2, 2021, he even announced that he might have to stop streaming on YouTube altogether. He said he was likely unable to sit at the computer and play for much longer. He has already significantly reduced his appearances.
Corpse Husband can apparently only play relatively simple, low-action games like Among Us, where talking is most important, and even that only for a limited time.
Recently, he had to interrupt streams because he was bleeding from his nose and his arms felt numb. He says he can only play for a short time now.
Moreover, Corpse apparently avoided some doctor and therapy visits in 2020 out of fear of contracting the Corona Virus.
Illness contributes to great voice but threatens career
What kind of illness is it? Corpse Husband seems to suffer from several chronic illnesses. He has repeatedly addressed his complicated situation: He lives completely alone, has no friends or family.
The situation with his illness seemed to overwhelm him in his early 20s: The symptoms appeared suddenly, he was uninsured at the time, and the diagnosis was not easily made after the suspicion that he had a brain tumor was not confirmed (via youtube). He says: He visited numerous doctors and none could tell him what illness he suffers from.
Corpse describes a series of symptoms:
He said he was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a disease that manifests in constant muscle pain. He suffers from thoracic outlet syndrome, which can lead to paralysis in the arm. He also complained of increased light sensitivity due to eye problems.
Furthermore, Corpse Husband suffers from an anxiety disorder. He said (via youtube):
“I have a very bad anxiety disorder. I never leave my house, I think I had the problem before [before the YouTube career], but now it makes total sense in my head, although it’s probably irrational.”

And he apparently suffers from GERD (gastroesophageal reflux). This condition causes the stomach contents to flow back into the esophagus.
This condition, GERD, is also partly responsible for Corpse’s deep, distinctive voice.

Through live streaming, gaming streamers frequently give insights into their physical and mental health as they talk to their fans hour after hour. This was also the case for streamer GPHustla, who was live on Twitch and didn’t want to stop:
