On Sunday, T1 became world champions in League of Legends. But one person isn’t really happy about it: the brilliant supporter of the team, Ryu “Keria” Min-seok, is a bit disappointed because he cannot choose his favorite champion for a special skin in LoL.
This is the situation:
- Whoever becomes world champion in LoL can request a skin for a champion from Riot.
- But he must have played that champion at least once during the tournament.
- However, the champions that players compete with are not necessarily chosen by themselves. That is determined by a draft: Champions are selected or banned by coaches, depending on the tactical direction of the team and current requirements.
Keria might have played Lux in Match 4, but the final ended after 3 matches
This frustrates Keria: The supporter Keria is considered one of the greatest talents that League of Legends has ever seen. But his runs at the LoL Worlds always ended when he faced his personal nemesis BeryL who eliminated him and his respective team from the tournament. This happened to Keria in 2020, 2021, and 2022, BeryL was always the nemesis he just couldn’t overcome.
But in 2023, there was no BeryL to be seen, so Keria could also become world champion.
Of course, the damned BeryL got his way when he became world champion:
After the tournament, Keria now has $445,000 more, but his dream has burst because he really wanted the champion Lux as his own skin. Because she is simply lovable and spreads light and joy wherever she walks – well, actually Lux prefers to blast her opponents with powerful laser beams, but somehow that counts as spreading light in LoL.
As his bot lane partner Gumayusi explains: “Keria originally liked Thresh and Lux the most, and it seemed like he really wanted a skin for Lux. If we had reached the blue side, we might have chosen the “Caitlyn/Lux” combo, but we ended up on the red side 3 times in a row and won the match 3-0.”
Because the sides in LoL are not entirely symmetrical, but differ in details. Therefore, teams develop strategies and favor champions for one side. Additionally, there are special rules for the bot lane; support and ADC must match
Bard, with whom Keria could shine in the final, is pretty much the opposite of Lux: a stocky, large guy who looks a bit like a balloon.

The fact that Riot Games does not grant the supporter his favorite champion but imposes Bard on him seems to throw the young man off his game a bit.
On reddit, anyway, some players feel sympathy for Keria. Riot should just turn a blind eye and give the man his Lux.
But others have a simple tip for him: “Just become a world champion again.” Let’s see where BeryL plays in 2024.

Keria might have picked Lux in Game 4, but since the final of the LoL Worlds against Weibo Gaming ended so early, Keria didn’t get a chance to play Lux.
“They said they can also make Bard pretty. I just frowned”
This is what Keria himself says: As PC Gamer writes, Keria said a bit disappointed:
“So, I was just thinking about making a Lux skin. I never thought about any other champion. So, when I go to the meeting at Riot, I talked most of the time about Lux. I asked them to make Lux pretty, and they told me they can make Bard pretty too. I just frowned.”
