The Chinese MMORPG Swords of Legends Online (SOLO) had barely any players from the West in sight at the end of 2020. However, it was announced last week that it is scheduled to be released in summer 2021. We at MeinMMO have received preview material to introduce you to the first class, the Reaper.
What kind of game is this? Swords of Legends Online is a theme park MMORPG that focuses on an ancient Chinese story about a demonic sword. In the game, you can:
- Complete quests that feature voiced cutscenes (in English)
- Visit dungeons and raids
- Ride various animals
- Decorate your own houses
- Engage in PvP in designated areas
The release of Swords of Legends is planned for summer 2021 on Epic Games and Steam, with an alpha and beta testing phase to take place beforehand. The MMORPG will be Buy2Play and is expected to have a shop with purely cosmetic items.
At launch, the game will feature 6 classes, including the Reaper, which we would like to introduce to you in this article.
The Reaper is an assassin who can also heal
What is the Reaper? The Reaper is a disciple of an ancient clan living in a purple underground temple. In combat, the class uses a scythe that enables the creation of massive whirlwinds of darkness.
Each class in Swords of Legends offers two paths along which you can develop the class. These are particularly interesting for the Reaper:
- On one hand, you can choose an assassin path. There you gain access to powerful curses, toxic companion creatures, and lightning-fast scythe attacks, allowing you to mercilessly mow down enemies. Additionally, there are abilities that let you sneak up on opponents unnoticed.
- The second path, however, turns the Reaper into an occultist. This allows you to sacrifice your own blood to heal and support allies. You can also enhance team members with specially bred insects and grant them supernatural abilities. Moreover, damage from allies can be redirected to yourself.
You can freely switch between class paths outside of combat.
To give you an insight into the class, we received gameplay for the Reaper in advance and uploaded it to YouTube.
In it, you can already see the fast attacks and the characteristic purple effects that define the Reaper. Towards the end of the video, you can also see the support abilities:
What about the other classes? In addition to the Reaper, there are 5 other classes available at launch:
- Berserker – A melee fighter
- Heavy Mage – A melee fighter
- Bard – A ranged fighter
- Summoner – A mage
- Spear Master – A melee fighter
What exactly each class can do will likely be revealed in the coming weeks leading up to the release. By the way, each class starts in its own starting area after the tutorial.
If you can’t wait until then, you can already check out gameplay of the Chinese version, like in the YouTube video embedded here by Steparu. However, keep in mind that the version in China is several years ahead of our release version. The contents may not completely match.
