The numbers for Q2 2019 on the streaming platform Twitch are out. With World of Warcraft and GTA 5, two old games are suddenly trending. The big loser is the relatively new Apex Legends. And Twitch has a new king: Fortnite star Tfue rakes it in during April, May, and June 2019.
These are the numbers: The platform Streamelements compared the top 10 games by hours watched from Q1 to Q2 2019 on Twitch.
It is noticeable that Fortnite and LoL still dominate the platform but both have lost some percentage points. PUBG is also losing, though at a significantly lower level.
Completely disappeared, however, is Apex Legends, which has fallen out of the top 10 from 3rd place. It seemed to have lived only from the original hype in February when it unexpectedly released and appeared like a gaming phenomenon.
No new trend has emerged on Twitch in the last month
What is behind this? The “Battle Royale” craze seems to be cooling down a bit in 2019. However, there is no real successor in sight.
The numbers show that no “new game” has managed to establish itself on Twitch in recent months. This has led some streamers to complain that there is so little attractive new content and that the gaming industry should step up its game.
Perhaps in the next quarter, auto-battlers like Teamfight Tactics will have a chance – they seem to be something for Hearthstone streamers.
GTA 5 and WoW win
These are the big winners: Of all games, Grand Theft Auto V is the enormous winner this quarter. The game, dating back to 2013, has increased by 150% and shot up to 3rd place.
GTA V Online wins because it utilizes renowned streamers as a platform for roleplay. GTA V serves as a stage for their escapades.
Twitch streamers like Summit1g have stood out, benefiting from the hype.
In July 2019, there were a number of streamers who achieved over 1 million viewed hours with GTA 5, including Lord_Kebun, Vader, dasMHEDI, or buddha (via twitchmetrics).
The next big winner is World of Warcraft from 2005. Here, the vanilla version of the MMORPG, WoW Classic, is driving up viewership numbers. Streamers like Sodapoppin, Asmongold, or again Summit1g are benefiting from this.
In general, it seems that the last three months have been good for Blizzard, as Overwatch and Hearthstone are also gaining. However, they had a weak Q1 2019.
This is also interesting: Even though Twitch looks like an unmanageable mass of channels, only about 5000 are relevant.
75% of Twitch viewers are concentrated on the 5000 largest channels, according to Streamelements.

Which streamers are winning and losing? With the decline of Apex Legends, Shroud’s star has also fallen. He completely dominated the platform Twitch in February 2019, but that is now over – which may also be due to his hand injury.
In March and April, Summit1g had a good run, but the Fortnite streamers are back on top now.
However, it is not Tyler “Ninja” Blevins who achieves the biggest successes as in 2018, but his rival Turner “Tfue” Tenney (21). Tfue was 6 years old when WoW first came out.
Tfue has qualified for the Fortnite World Cup, unlike Ninja.
Winners among individual streamers include WoW Classic streamers like Asmongold and Sodapoppin. Additionally, the explosive xQc has made it into the top 5 for the first time.
