The organizers of the E3, one of the largest gaming events in the world, have announced that the expo will again only take place online. At the same time, the Summer Game Fest has been announced, also only online. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What has the E3 announced? The organizers of the major gaming event have announced that E3 2022 will again take place only online. The reason given is the risk of Corona and the Omicron variant.
There is a fear that such a large event could turn into a super-spreader despite hygiene measures. Therefore, it was decided to conduct the event as an online event.
After E3 2020 was completely cancelled, 2022 will be the second consecutive year in which the major gaming event relies on an online presentation.
What else has happened? Just a few moments after the E3 announcement, the Summer Game Fest also confirmed its return in 2022. The event took place for the first time in 2020 and was meant to function as a kind of supplement to E3.
In 2021, the Summer Game Fest also took place just one day before E3. Many fans therefore thought it was part of the event itself. Strictly speaking, E3 and Summer Game Fest have nothing to do with each other and are independent events.
When will the events take place? There is currently no exact date for either of the events. The Summer Game Fest currently only states summer 2022 as the date. E3, however, will take place as usual in June.
We assume that the Summer Game Fest will likely choose a date around E3 again, so we estimate that both events will take place in June. Of course, we will keep you updated on this.
What can you expect from the events?
What is the E3 anyway? The name E3 stands for Electronic Entertainment Expo. It is a fair where gaming is the focus and where there are usually a lot of new announcements. It usually takes place in Los Angeles but opted for a purely online event in 2021.
The fair is aimed, somewhat differently than Gamescom, more at publishers and game developers than at gamers themselves. Nevertheless, you can expect exciting press conferences from various publishers, in which they will tell and show what is new.
So there are not only complete new announcements but also new trailers for already known projects and sometimes exciting information about the games that you would otherwise not get to know.
What is the Summer Game Fest? The Summer Game Fest is presented by Prime Gaming and is an event where gaming is also the focus. It will again be hosted in 2022 by Geoff Keighley, whom you might already know from the Game Awards, E3, or the Gamescom Opening Night Live.
The event took place for the first time in 2020 and was intended to make up for the drought of new announcements that resulted from the cancellation of E3. While big publishers like Sony or EA held their own events, the Summer Game Fest focused on presenting the games that no one else would have noticed.
Among other things, you can expect many titles from smaller studios and indie games at the Summer Game Fest. Unlike E3, the Game Fest livestream only takes place on one day, but the event itself was around a month long in 2021 and offered even more than just new announcements.
Many of the games could even be played during the Summer Game Fest or you could get further information about the games that interested you.
Both events are very relevant for gamers and are expected to showcase many exciting innovations and games in 2022 that no one has yet anticipated. What do you think about the E3 becoming a completely online event, and do you hope that it can be held on-site again in 2023? Feel free to write us a comment here at MeinMMO.
By the way, we still have 5 games for you that particularly impressed us at E3 2021.
