The PC Game Pass has become even bigger. StarCraft Remastered and the campaign of StarCraft 2 are now included in the subscription and playable for all subscribers at no additional cost. Despite their age, these titles are among the most important strategy games, even today.
What kind of games are they?
- StarCraft is one of the cornerstones that made Blizzard great. The first part was released in 1998, StarCraft 2 in 2010, and yet it’s still one of the best strategy games currently on the market.
- Both games offer a campaign, and in StarCraft 2, the multiplayer mode is still in demand today. There is even a co-op mode where you control a faction together.
- The development of StarCraft 2 was stopped in 2020, after two expansions.
Here you can now play them: Since November 5, 2024, StarCraft Remastered and the campaign of StarCraft 2 are included in the Game Pass. Although there is already a free version of StarCraft 2 on Battle.net, the Game Pass includes all campaigns:
- StarCraft + Brood War
- StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty
- the two expansions of StarCraft 2, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void
- plus you have access to the mission pack Nova Covert Ops and the co-op commander mode
However, the games do not come to Xbox, so they are only available in the PC Game Pass and the Ultimate Game Pass.
StarCraft 2 is still relevant even after 10 years
Although StarCraft 2 has been on the market for many years, there are still tournaments with large prize pools. In the Esports World Cup 2024 alone, over 1 million US dollars were distributed to the winners.
According to the website Esports Earnings, StarCraft 2 ranks 9th among games with the highest prize money, just behind Rainbow Six Siege and ahead of Rocket League, Overwatch, Valorant, and Hearthstone.
StarCraft 2 is especially known for requiring extremely fast reflexes and mental work. The gameplay can seem hectic even just from watching, although it is a strategy game.
If you’re interested in the franchise, you now have the opportunity to play all campaigns with the Game Pass. You don’t even need a subscription on Battle.net for this. However, if you’d rather wait, you might soon be served a successor: Insiders say that StarCraft 3 is in development
