Currently, MMORPGs are heating up. In addition to the releases of Aion Classic and Mad World, the next game is set to launch on May 1st. Additionally, there was news about the beta in Throne and Liberty and the content of Blue Protocol. We have summarized all the news of the week.
The highlights of the week:
- On Tuesday, Aion Classic was released. The remaster of the old MMORPG caused queues and the opening of a second server.
- On Friday, Mad World, a game with crazy graphics and story, launched. This led to various technical issues. Furthermore, the release on Steam has been delayed.
- On May 1st, a new hardcore MMORPG called Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore will be released.

The upset of the week: The UK has stopped Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, and the stock lost $7 billion in value in 31 minutes.
Lost Ark wants players back and new info on Throne and Liberty and Ashes of Creation
What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- WoW reveals how the story continues and brings back one of the biggest villains. Additionally, the details about the class changes with patch 10.1 were shared. Moreover, two super-rare items are being given away, but you only have a few days to get them.
- There was also news for WoW Classic. Here, it’s all about a hint about Classic+, an expansion of the old content.
- Lost Ark wants to win back players and plans to completely overhaul the onboarding process. Additionally, there was a new roadmap that makes one thing good and three things pretty bad.
- Guild Wars is bringing out a new balance patch on May 2nd. Adjustments to the classes have already been discussed in the forum.
- In Black Desert, there is currently an event where you need 90% less Marni fuel to transfer your gear from one character to another (via BDO). This is the perfect time to try out a new class. You can find everything about the classes of BDO here.
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- New World has launched the new event Spring Blossom. Additionally, I talked about why New World is currently a lot of fun for me and how the battle pass is to blame for it.
- In MapleStory, a complete class will be deleted. The developers stated that it does not exist in other regions.
- In SWTOR, you will receive a free pet to celebrate the release of Star Wars Jedi Survivor (via Twitter).
- LOTRO is turning 16 years old and is celebrating this with a new raid and a variety of rewards (via GameStar).
- Tarisland, the new MMORPG from Tencent, is expected to replace WoW in China. Now it is also supposed to come to the West. You can watch the trailer here:
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Throne and Liberty has announced a new test for Korea, and we are also supposed to get a beta.
- This is how Blue Protocol circumvents the biggest problem of free-to-play MMORPGs
- Monsters & Memories is a new MMORPG from the lead designer of EverQuest. It could be tested for free this weekend.
- Reign of Guilds is a new medieval MMORPG that you can test for free until May 7th.
- Ashes of Creation gave new insights into the mage class, which was revised for Alpha 2 (via MassivelyOP).
