In April, two new MMORPGs, Aion Classic and Mad World, are coming out. Additionally, a completely new game called Anvil Empires has been announced, along with some news regarding WoW, RuneScape, and New World. We have summarized everything for you.
The highlights of the week:
- On April 12, Aion Classic launches in Europe. The state is approximately patch 1.9, albeit with adjustments in balance. Moreover, Aion Classic will be developed in a new direction going forward, similar to Old School RuneScape. A completely new class and a dungeon have already been announced.
- On April 27 – or on April 22 with the corresponding backer package – Mad World releases. This is a dark 2.5D game in an isometric perspective. The focus is on complex skill trees, story, and wars between tribes. It will be available for both Steam and the browser. More about the game here: 6 new MMORPGs set to release in 2023.
- Soulframe, the new MMORPG from the Warframe creators, has shown its first gameplay. In about 3 minutes, various battles featuring a melee class can be seen.
The shock of the week: In Old School RuneScape, players can choose between three new skills, one of which will be implemented. This is the first new skill in 10 years. Consequently, players are debating it intensely.
The discussion of the week: Why haven’t any good new MMORPGs been released in nearly 9 years? This question was raised by Schuhmann, inviting you to discuss it. You can do so here in the comments or feel free to do so in the article itself.
A lot of complaints in WoW, new expansion for Black Desert, and a delay for New World
What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- WoW is reportedly working on some kind of Cataclysm 2.0. Cortyn has compiled all the information about it. Our WoW demon is also complaining about developer missteps. Furthermore, the new affixes have been announced, which will soon be introduced for Mythic+.
- In ESO, there is currently a build that allows you to do everything, no matter how poorly you play. Moreover, the DLC Scribes of Fate has also been released this week for the console version of ESO.
- In Guild Wars 2, the Super Adventure Box started on Tuesday. This is an 8-bit game within the game. It will remain until April 18.
- Black Desert has released the new expansion “Land of the Morning Light” in Korea. It will be available to us soon. We have introduced it here. You can also see the trailer here:
What happened with the minor MMORPGs:
- In Old School RuneScape, a player set a crazy “speedrun record” that took 711 play hours.
- In New World, the first season was supposed to start on March 28, along with a new story and a new dungeon. However, due to an error, the release has been postponed indefinitely. The reset of the leaderboards will now take place on April 2, which many take as an indication that the patch will also be released then (via New World Forum).
- In Ultima Online, there are players who have been paying a subscription for years, logging in only briefly, but are not actually playing actively. The reason for this is housing.
- SWTOR has released the new patch 7.2.1, which includes the 64-bit client among other things (via SWTOR).
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Blue Protocol has released new gameplay for the classes. Additionally, the network test in Japan has been running since March 31.
- Anvil Empires will be a new MMORPG focused on PvP. What is special here is that it will be very complex. You have to build and manage your own city and ensure supply in wars. The game is by the creators of the shooter Foxhole, which followed a similar principle.
- The creators of Lost Ark have introduced a new MMORPG called Wonderers: Eternal World, which resembles MapleStory and will host its first beta in April – but only in Korea for now.
- Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen talked in a dev video about crafting, gathering, and the upcoming test in April (via MassivelyOP).
