A 19-year-old English YouTuber, Owen “ItsOwen” Clough, is currently complaining that his channel with 3.5 million subscribers has been banned by YouTube for no reason: He has done nothing wrong. But YouTube is receiving much applause for the ban. Many users on YouTube accuse ItsOwen of profiting from the tragic death of Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade.
This is the user’s complaint:
- Yesterday on July 4, the user “ItsOwen” complained to YouTube on Twitter. He said his channel with 3.5 million subscribers had been unjustly banned by YouTube (via twitter).
- He says he is so depressed that he doesn’t know what to do next.
- But instead of sympathy from the community, there is only applause for YouTube. Many say the account should remain banned.
Successful teenager becomes the worst YouTuber in the world
What kind of YouTuber is he? It all started so well. In 2019, Owen was described by a local British newspaper as an extremely successful teenage entrepreneur because he started making YouTube videos at the age of 11 and had already built large channels by the age of 16.
In the article “York Teenager Owen Clough is a YouTube Sensation,” he was seen as something like the neighborhood’s entrepreneurial wonder kid, almost a young Christian Lindner (via yorkpress).
But today, the channel of “ItsOwen” is known for gathering clicks with videos that are not accurate and aimed at maximum shock value: They suggest a story with thumbnail and title that the video does not deliver.
He repeatedly attempts to create content that “negatively” references the large and successful YouTuber MrBeast : Some of his most successful videos are posts claiming MrBeast fired someone. He consistently follows this pattern.
Additionally, he likes to make videos pretending that the always masked Minecraft YouTuber Dream has just revealed his face.
ItsOwen consciously targets the biggest YouTubers of the time to gather clicks in their vicinity.

What caused the ban now? ItsOwen apparently crossed the last line with a video titled “MrBeast Final Goodbye To Technoblade.” The popular YouTuber Technoblade died just a few days ago at the age of only 23.
The thumbnail of the video suggests MrBeast is in tears and is now reacting to the death of his friend.
However, the video has nothing to do with such a reaction. Instead, it shows the two playing Minecraft together as usual and then saying goodbye to each other.
In that sense, it is literally the “last goodbye,” but the thumbnail suggests an “emotional farewell from a dying person” or an “emotional obituary” and not that two people are playing Minecraft together and then saying goodbye.
MrBeast has not yet reacted to the death of Technoblade.
Many view the video as extremely tasteless
This upset many: The video by ItsOwen gathered so many views within 20 hours and was so trending that it was even in 5th place in trending topics in gaming on YouTube.
Apparently, ItsOwen has crossed the line and has now earned his ban.
How is this being discussed? YouTube is being begged to keep ItsOwen’s channel banned.
People generally find the behavior tasteless:
- Some believe that ItsOwen has specialized in using such false “shock news” to grow channels quickly and then sell them.
- Others say every time YouTube bans one of his channels, he writes the exact same post pleading for help from the YouTube team. Every time he gets his channel back, he just continues to do worse.
The story of the “innocent boy who loses his huge channel unfairly and is now very sad” seems to be hard for anyone to believe.
