18-year-old streamer Darrell “IShowSpeed” Watkins is huge on YouTube. He is primarily known for his loud outbursts. During a meeting with players from the Portuguese national football team, he just started barking.
What kind of YouTuber is he? IShowSpeed is a phenomenon on YouTube. At the end of 2021, the 18-year-old was permanently banned from Twitch and quickly became the biggest streamer on YouTube. He draws attention mainly with actions that somehow always go completely wrong.
Nevertheless, he keeps managing to get celebrities into his streams:
- He already called a player from FC Bayern and revealed his phone number
- During a phone call with Drake, he made the rapper hang up with a careless remark
However, one meeting remains elusive for the enthusiastic football fan: that with his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. In Portugal, the 18-year-old got close, as he met with national players João Félix and Rafael Leão – and started barking.
In the world of content creators, one has to come up with unusual actions to stand out from the crowd. So one barks or puts on a rat costume.
IShowSpeed goes wild during meeting with João Félix
What is IShowSpeed doing in Portugal? The streamer traveled to Portugal to attend the Euro qualifier match between Portugal and Liechtenstein on March 23. As befits a content creator, he shared it with his viewers on stream.
After the match, where his idol Cristiano Ronaldo scored two of the four goals, IShowSpeed was invited to hang out with national players João Félix and Rafael Leão. The streamer initially presented himself with Leão, joking with him: that he is his brother, his twin.
How did the meeting go? In a restaurant, the 18-year-old then meets João Félix. When he wants to introduce the 23-year-old to his chat, he makes a faux pas, mispronouncing the player’s name and refusing to say it correctly again even after being corrected – that’s the same anyway.
Félix retaliates by offering the YouTuber a spoonful of chocolate mousse. Instead of letting him try it, he smears the cream on his nose. IShowSpeed then starts barking wildly, much to the amusement of those present, who film him while laughing.
As always, it remains a bit unclear to what extent his counterparts were in on it. Félix seems to not hold it against the 18-year-old; however, it is likely one of the more unusual fan meetings of his career. You can watch the whole video here, barking starts at 9:49.
How is it received? By now, such behavior is well known from the 18-year-old and the reactions are predictably: His fans love him for exactly this content; the barking is the highlight for them. People who are not fans of the YouTuber find it rather off-putting, a bit cringy (via Twitter).
Whether IShowSpeed has increased his chances of meeting Cristiano Ronaldo by barking with his colleagues is rather questionable. However, fans eagerly follow whether the 18-year-old will still succeed in personally meeting his great idol – if the YouTuber follows his usual pattern, at least entertainment is guaranteed.
