What are these terms? Since there have been video games (and actually even before that), players have been abbreviating certain things or coming up with terms that describe a specific circumstance. Over time, this has almost developed into its own language: gamer jargon.
Those who are not involved in the scene may not understand a word. However, behind each of these terms is something that allows gamers to quickly and precisely share information with others.
Why are these terms important? This is crucial in many games so that players can react quickly. Teamwork is, after all, one of the most important factors and the unique feature of MMOs. Since these terms have become more numerous over time, there are now even actual vocabulary books, such as for raids in Destiny 2.
Such “social conventions” of the gaming world serve to convey information as compactly and understandably as possible. This is also why the color coding for rare items is almost always the same.
The terms we have compiled for you come from all sorts of genres, from MMORPGs to shooters. Some are a bit more specific, others more general, and you should already know many of them.
