A new action RPG on Steam could be the next hit for all fans of Soulslike games. The game is based on a 14-year-old MMORPG.
What game is this about? Vindictus: Defying Fate is a new action RPG that is set to be released on Steam. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s based on the horror MMORPG of the same name from 2010.
Currently, publisher Nexon, which is also responsible for Dave the Diver among other games, has announced the pre-alpha starting March 13, 2024. However, a precise release date has not yet been revealed.
What to expect: At first glance, it looks like the developers want to get a little involved in the Soulslike genre with this new game. They promise intense and challenging battles, among other things. In the trailer, you can also catch a glimpse of the first combat gameplay.
Here you can see, for example, that many enemies are definitely physically superior to you, and you must cleverly adjust to their movesets to deliver the decisive blow. In combat, you will rely on your skills, reflexes, and strategy. At first glance, it already looks very fluid.
In line with the somewhat dark setting, you can also see a lot of blood splattering during the fights. Anyone who enjoys this kind of graphic representation should be visually satisfied here.
Vindictus: Defying Fate takes place in a fantasy world based on Celtic myths. The enemies in the trailer already resemble dark creatures and mythical beings.
You should be able to customize your character in the game. Each character is said to be unique not only in appearance but also in weapon and combat style. You should create a character that you can identify with, which also suits your own play style.
What does the community say? Standing out among the relatively many Soulslike games in recent years certainly poses a challenge.
Simply basing their new game on their old MMORPG could be exactly the solution to this hurdle for Nexon. In any case, it seems that many of the old fans are already looking forward to another adventure in the world of Vindictus, judging by the comments (via YouTube):
