With “Day of Reckoning: Aftershock”, DC Universe Online not only expands the current story arc, the superhero MMORPG also follows in the footsteps of WoW with a new feature.
What kind of new feature is this? Since June 2022, the once feuding factions Horde and Alliance in World of Warcraft have been able to tackle instanced content together, such as battlegrounds, dungeons, or raids. This was a historic adjustment that sparked heated discussions in the community.
With the freshly released Aftershock update for the “Day of Reckoning” story arc that started in January 2025, all fans of DC Universe Online can now expect something similar. The heroes and villains of the MMORPG can now join the same league (read: guild) for the first time and play under a common banner.
However, it seems that a mixed group cannot yet join the queues for the different content of the MMORPG.

What else does the new update bring? Aftershock intensifies the fight against darkness and, in addition to the faction merging, delivers the following highlight innovations:
- A new open-world boss awaits you in the infernal Overlord Neron
- There is now an elite plus version of the alarm surrounding the attack on the Kaznian Necropolis
- There is an elite plus version for the raid of the Kaznian Necropolis
- There is an elite plus version for Neron’s Underworld raid
- Anyone who fully collects the new exorcism kit will receive a supernatural Hellblazer aura
- In heavily populated areas, phasing is now expected to run much smoother

- Dazzling_Newspaper43 writes in a discussion on Reddit: “I’m not sure what the point of a mixed league is if you can’t queue up with a mixed group.”
- Last_Manufacturer397 responds on Reddit: “Since the leagues on the hero side are more active, people are likely to join an active league with buffs rather than one that has nothing.”
- Vilkath criticizes the update on Reddit: “I mean, it’s pretty standard fare … elite plus versions of some of the worst content ever. Double rewards for items we’ve been grinding for one or two months already … The league thing is nice, but […] I don’t think it helps when you can’t form groups with a mixed team.”
