Counter Strike 2 has been announced. The update aims to give the well-known CS:GO a new shine and refresh many aspects in the tactical shooter. A player has now conducted tests in the beta and shows you 14 changes that you probably don’t know yet.
What has been tested? The Twitter user fREQUENCYCS and founder of FPSHeaven has looked into the CS2 beta. This included not only FPS tests but also weapons and new features. So you know what innovations to expect in the CS:GO update, we show you everything in our overview.
CS2: Changes to weapons and their functionality
What has changed? Weapons in CS2 have received a new look in many aspects. This includes the following changes:
- Muzzle flash is now visually visible
- Weapons with silencers have altered muzzle flash
- The sound of your scope (for snipers) has changed
- The spread pattern of the M4A4 has been slightly adjusted
Additionally, the settings of your crosshair and the behavior of your projectiles and weapons have changed:
- Crosshair can now move along with the spread pattern of your weapon
- Can be adjusted in the settings
- Jump shots while looking through your scope are more accurate and better
- The speed of your movement while looking through your scope is faster
- Shot trails resemble those already known from CoD: Black Ops 2
Even a new weapon is supposed to come into the game, the Kukri. This is a machete with a curved blade.

CS2: Menu, Preview of weapons and bots
What has changed? Weapons can now be inspected, as well as items that you own in your collection. Attachments and skins can be viewed. The menu has also changed.
If you now enter a private lobby, you can also spawn bots, but these are broken as they do not respond to further commands such as freezing.
CS2: Effects of smoke grenades and minor changes
What has been changed with smoke and flash grenades? Smoke and flash grenades now have a preview where you can see where your grenades will bounce and eventually land. The interesting thing is, that the smoke grenade reduces your FPS and causes minor stutters.
Note that this information was gathered in the beta and problems may still be addressed.
If you want to throw your grenades far, that’s no problem in CS2. With a good throw, grenades can be thrown to the end of the map.
Valve optimizes sounds and how you perceive them: Lastly, the sounds of your projectiles have been adjusted.
- Shots in open terrain have received a better echo
- Shots in enclosed spaces produce a more metallic sound
Sounds such as your steps and shots are now visually displayed on your minimap. Steps receive a smaller and blinking circle that disappears when you stop moving. Shots now cause the outer edge of your minimap to light up.
