The year 2022 is set to be a grand year for games. But which titles are particularly interesting for co-op fans? We at MeinMMO have selected 12 titles that you should definitely keep an eye on.
In this list, we take a look at the co-op games that are set to be released in 2022. We deliberately leave out MMOs and MMORPGs and focus only on the co-op aspect of each game.
Since the games have not been released yet and we cannot say how good they actually are, this list is based on the personal assessments of the author Mark Sellner, who has been following the games for quite some time and has played some of their predecessors.
- Some of the titles also join the most anticipated multiplayer and co-op games on Steam for 2022, but there are also some games that will be released outside of Steam.

Monster Hunter Rise

This is Monster Hunter Rise: Monster Hunter Rise is the sixth installment of the main series Monster Hunter and was already released in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch. The game returns to a more Asian setting, following Monster Hunter World, but does not change much otherwise.
Alone or optionally with your friends, you embark on a hunt for monsters. Of course, there will again be new variants of the nasty beasts waiting for you, and a new story can also be expected in Rise.
However, Monster Hunter remains true to its gameplay loop. You kill monsters to loot them and craft better equipment to kill stronger monsters and repeat the process. It sounds simple, but it works well and is fun.
In the process, you access a variety of weapons and can specialize in several of them. There is enough long-term motivation for the endgame in Monster Hunter Rise.
This is how co-op works: Co-op essentially works the same as normal gameplay. You can hunt and slay monsters either alone or with up to three other players. The monsters scale in strength, so you are never underchallenged by the beast of your choice.
Unfortunately, there is no crossplay or cross-save feature. You cannot carry over your save from Switch nor play with your Switch friends.
What do we expect? Monster Hunter stays true to itself with Rise and relies on tried-and-true features.

When can you play? You can already play on Switch, or test the free demo of Monster Hunter Rise on Steam. The official release of the PC version is then on January 12. So you don’t have to wait much longer.
Rainbow Six: Extraction

This is Rainbow Six: Extraction: In the new Tom Clancy adventure Rainbow Six: Extraction, you actually don’t have to play against other agents and special forces. Nevertheless, you can see some familiar faces again.
Extraction relies on the characters from Rainbow Six: Siege and starts with 18 of them at launch. All of them possess different abilities and equipment, just like you are already familiar with from Siege.
Once you have selected a hero, you dive directly into the mission. There are various missions with constantly varying objectives based on the mission type. However, they all have one thing in common: it’s against dangerous NPCs, and you don’t want to lose your character.
You can try to rescue him on a rescue mission afterward, but if you don’t succeed, he’s lost. So, there is a kind of permadeath system in Extraction, which is meant to add extra excitement.
This is how co-op works: The entire game is designed around the co-op aspect. Together with two other players, you face the dangers of the mysterious aliens. While you can also play the game alone, you will then have NPC companions. So you are never truly alone.
In a group of up to three, you will try to wipe out the slimy enemies and rescue your captured friends. Or maybe blow up the whole facility.

What do we expect? As you are already used to from Rainbow Six: Siege, you can look forward to exciting action.

When can you play? The adventure in Extraction begins on January 20, 2022, on all platforms. Then you can start playing. You can carry your progress across all consoles, and crossplay between all listed consoles should also be possible.
Dying Light 2

This is Dying Light 2: Dying Light 2 takes us back to the zombie-infested world of the first installment, but is otherwise detached from the story of the first game and takes place several years after the events of Dying Light.
The game places great emphasis on its story and wants to tell a gripping tale in which characters and your choices play a key role.
Dying Light 2 offers more of the gameplay that you are already familiar with. Fast-paced parkour action combined with quick melee combat and handcrafted weapons. Firearms, on the other hand, are said to be even rarer than they were in the first part.
The titular mechanic of the horror game means that you have to pay significantly better attention to your surroundings at night than during the day. The transition between day and night is an essential part of the game. At night, it becomes significantly more dangerous than during the day.
This is how co-op works: The co-op feature of Dying Light 2 is limited to a drop-in co-op, where you can invite friends to your campaign or join your friends’ story.
The host retains the story progress, while other players only gain experience and loot. Because the entire game world can change based on your decisions, it’s particularly important that you check out other save files and play with friends.
You can do all this with up to four players, but solo, duo, or trio modes are also possible. Whether the second installment will also have a separate multiplayer mode is currently unknown. However, the co-op feature benefits from the fact that you can play Dying Light 2 on almost any PC.
Note: Since Dying Light 2 was not approved by the USK for those under 18 in Germany, it will only be released in a censored version here. You can only play with German friends if you have the German version of the game.
What do we expect? In terms of features, Dying Light 2 is well-equipped.

When can you play? Dying Light 2 will be released worldwide on all platforms at the same time: on February 4, 2022. The game was originally supposed to be released in 2021 but was postponed.
