The Nether of Minecraft has an important rule that every player knows. You should never set up beds. But this respawn mechanic will change soon …
If you die in the Nether, you do not respawn in the Nether. This is a rule that has been in place since the release of the Nether in October 2010. Back then, the Nether was still a completely unknown area in Minecraft. But in the last 10 years, players have mastered the Nether and uncovered all its secrets. However, the “Nether Update” is coming soon, bringing the Nether up to date. One of the oldest rules will be changed – respawning in the Nether will then be possible.
This is how respawning works in Minecraft: If you die in Minecraft, your character appears at the position of your bed if the bed has not been destroyed. This rule applies to all areas in the Overworld – but not in the Nether. There you cannot set a “spawn point”. If you die in the Nether, you respawn back at your bed in the Overworld and must wander back through the portal to the Nether.
No beds in the Nether: It is one of the oldest pranks in Minecraft. Almost every player has tried to trick someone else into setting up a bed in the Nether and wanting to sleep in it. And almost everyone has also experienced what happens then: The bed explodes with the character inside. This can kill the player or – worse – throw them into the lava, causing all their carried items to burn upon death. A mistake no player makes twice.
The next patch also changes diamonds – they will no longer be the best resource!
This is changing now: With the “Nether Update”, the upcoming patch for Minecraft, this will change. Although you still cannot use a bed in the Nether, you can create a “Respawn Anchor”. This is a new item that can be placed in the Nether and must then be “fed” with Glowstone blocks to recharge it. This allows the anchor to have up to four charges. When a player uses the anchor, it becomes the new respawn point in the Nether.
But caution: If you try to use the “Respawn Anchor” in the Overworld, the same thing happens as with a bed in the Nether – the anchor explodes and takes everything in its vicinity to death.
For the community, this means that there will be more opportunities for challenges, such as “surviving only in the Nether”, if you want to change the respawn point. Additionally, it will no longer be necessary to have a bed as close as possible to the Nether portal to save long walking distances.
The Nether Update also brings a number of other absurd innovations:
- The new maximum speed through a “glitch” is 266 blocks per second – this looks absurd.
- Right now, you can even fly with fishing rods and lures!
