An old perk from Call of Duty made its return in Modern Warfare 2 and seems quite nice at first glance: You can get back up after being taken down. But for many players, this ability means nothing more than total frustration.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 faced a lot of criticism for its gameplay decisions. Especially the players who play a lot in the shooter criticize a progressive “casualization” – they do not want CoD to become easier, there should be so-called “skill gaps”.
As part of this development, the return of the hated perk “Last Stand” can be seen. In CoD MW2 it is called “Survivor” and gives players a self-revival per life when the perk is charged.
But back then as now, the perk is heavily criticized, indeed almost hated. We will show you why this is the case and what players say about it.
With the start of the mid-season, a double XP event begins in CoD MW2 by the way an Double XP Event. In the video, you will find some tips for leveling up your weapons:
Last Stand – Then as now a trigger topic
What is the problem with the perk? While the ability for taken-down players certainly has its appeal, it is particularly the attackers who complain about “Survivor”.
In CoD MW2 it is not so much that the downed opponents have an extra life. It is more about the entire way the perk works:
- You do not get the kill if someone else finishes off the downed player
- Kills from Survivor opponents do not count towards camo challenges
- Opponents are invulnerable for a brief moment when they go down
What do players say about it? Currently, there is a very popular thread on the topic in the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit. Within 21 hours, the thread received 1,800 upvotes and gathered 335 comments (12/12/22 / 4:00 PM).
The title: “For the people who use Survivor: I only wish you the worst”.
The users discuss the aforementioned problems with the perk and you can feel the charged atmosphere. It is a little surprising that the tone in the thread is quite moderate. Many talk about how they actually “hate” the perk, but remain relatively calm in their explanations.
For example, user “kefefs”: “The only thing I hate about Survivor is the brief invulnerability when opponents go into the down phase.” If you want to finish the job, you lose valuable moments and ammunition.
The comment with the most upvotes in the thread revolves around the problem of who gets the kill. “Phuzz15” receives over 1,200 upvotes: “I’m just tired of shooting someone down and when a teammate finishes them off, they get the kill”.
The fact that many users in the thread talk relatively calmly despite the charged topic may be due to the long history of the perk.
Even at the release of Modern Warfare 3 (2011), the CoD developers received roaring applause for announcing that the hated perk would not be in the game. “Fuck Last Stand” was said back then even by the developers:
