Special trades in Pokémon GO can give you the chance for good lucky Pokémon. But which trade is really worth it? We present 10 candidates.
What are special trades? Normally, you can only do one special trade per day in Pokémon GO. Some events, like the Family Event, allow you to do 2 special trades per day.
With this, you can trade special Pokémon, such as Legendary or Shiny ones. So you should carefully consider which Pokémon you trade.

10 good Pokémon for special trades
What counts as special trades? These include monsters that are exclusive in some way. These are:
- legendary Pokémon
- Shinies
- Pokémon with special attacks, such as those from Community Days
This is how good candidates stand out: It’s best to trade Pokémon that play a significant role in the meta of Pokémon GO. Typically, these are legendary Pokémon and sometimes Shinies that can become really strong.
Rayquaza
Rayquaza is the best Dragon attacker in the game, and several players have done particularly many raids of this legendary Pokémon. So you can also trade some specimens and maybe you’ll get a Rayquaza as a lucky Pokémon.
Alternatively, Shiny Rayquaza is also an option. However, a lucky trade would be fitting if you don’t have enough Shinies of Rayquaza.
Mewtwo

Mewtwo is a good candidate in various cases. With Psystrike it is by far the best all-rounder in the game, and with its various other attacks, it can also impress.
Mewtwo is also available as Shiny. If you don’t want to wait for a lucky friend, you can simply trade a Shiny Mewtwo as a special trade.
Giratina (Altered Forme)
Among Ghost attackers, no one can surpass Giratina. It deals a lot of damage and also withstands quite a bit. Good lucky Pokémon can’t hurt here.
Kyogre
Kyogre is always a good candidate for a special trade. Currently, you can find it in Field Research breakthroughs, and before you just send it away, you should rather trade it.
Kyogre is, together with Kingler, the best Water attacker and can take a lot of damage. A good Kyogre should be present in every team.
Terrakion
The legendary Pokémon from Generation 5 is a fantastic Rock attacker. It deals more damage than Tyranitar and withstands more than Rhyhorn.
Especially for battles against Team GO Rocket and its bosses, it is ideally suited. So Terrakion should definitely not be missing from your team.
Raikou
As an Electric attacker, Raikou is a solid choice. It is, together with Electivire, the best attacker of this type. Its move Thunder Shock is powerful and charged quickly.
Raikou can also be Shiny. If you have enough specimens of it, you can certainly trade one in a special trade. A lucky Shiny Raikou is definitely not a bad thing.
Shiny Whismur
If you played the Community Day with Whismur, you might have caught quite a few Shinies of it. So it wouldn’t hurt to trade a few of them and hope for a lucky Pokémon.
Mamoswine is the best Ice attacker in the game and is especially useful against the various Dragon-type Pokémon in raids.
Shiny Roselia
If you participated in the event around the Safari Zone in Dortmund in 2018, you probably caught some Shiny Roselia. You can trade these well and hope for a lucky Pokémon.
The evolution Roserade is the best Grass attacker in the game and should not be missing from any team. As a good Shiny, it’s even better.
Shiny Sneasel
Admittedly, Shiny Sneasel is somewhat rarer to obtain. However, its evolution Weavile is among the top attackers of the Dark and Ice types. A good Shiny would therefore be worthwhile. In the worst case, you just get another bad Shiny in return for your bad Shiny. The loss isn’t great.
Shiny Machop
With Machop, the same applies as with Sneasel: it’s a rare Shiny, but Machamp is incredibly useful. It’s currently the best Fighting attacker and is especially useful against the numerous Snorlax and Snorlax in gyms.
Which Pokémon do you like to trade in special trades? Have you heard about this crazy goal?
