Together with the new Pokémon Legends: Z-A, new Mega Evolutions have also appeared in the world of Pokémon. Here at MeinMMO, we present the 10 best designs of the new Mega Pokémon.
While the look of the city Illumina and its buildings in Pokémon Legends Z-A is heavily criticized by many players, the design team shows that they have given the Mega Pokémon in the game more love and have really thought about some candidates.
This list includes only Mega Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, meaning their Mega Evolutions have not appeared in other games before. Pokémon like Mega Charizard, Mega Gyarados, or Mega Lucario are therefore not considered in this list.
Instead, we look at the designs of the new candidates, with the 10 best being awarded a spot.
This list is solely about the design, meaning the appearance, the concept, and the implementation of both. Of course, opinions on designs are influenced by different tastes, and one design may be loved by one person but not liked at all by another. Perhaps one of your favorites has still made it to the top spots.

Mega Starmie
Mega Starmie is a somewhat controversial candidate that some players feel should be forgotten, while others have made it a favorite. The evolutionary transition from a regular Starmie to its Mega form is as simple as it is effective, which either excites or deeply disturbs players: For Mega Starmie simply gets longer legs, which not only change its look but also its animation.
Instead of moving by spinning, it takes its legs and runs. A somewhat unsettling sight that continues to affirm the diverging opinions of players.
Mega Starmie is either an absolute nightmare or an iconic legend – even here in the editorial office of MeinMMO, opinions are deeply divided, but it has sparked a lot of discussion. And if a design achieves that, it has already won in some respects.
Mega Sarzenia
Mega Sarzenia works on a similar principle to Mega Starmie and is seen by some players as so “ugly” and almost scary that they love it for exactly that reason.
The announcement of Mega Sarzenia in its trailer in atmospheric horror style was something no one really expected and its smiling face despite its painfully stuffed plant body plays into this uncomfortable base design of the monster very well.
The effectiveness of the design also lies in its reference to nature, where the carnivorous pitcher plants “Nepenthes” and “Sarracenia” (do you notice something here?) digest their prey in the “belly” of the plant. With a twisted neck, Mega Sarzenia presumably ensures that there really is no escape for its victims.
