The Attack on the Seraphite Island
The experience on Seraphite Island was quite a thrilling and action-packed part of the game that I enjoyed a lot. The island brings a fresh breeze through the contrast to the urban Seattle. However, the cult-like atmosphere is oppressive, and with Yara’s death and the attack of the WLF, the situation quickly escalates into an inferno in the village. The pacing and atmosphere in the game convinced me the most.
I hope that the series’ adaptation maintains this pacing and I am especially looking forward to the sets that hopefully make the Seraphite island appear as lively and yet as oppressive as possible.
Ellie’s Ruthlessness
Ellie has been confronted with violence and killing from an early age due to the world she was born into. In both the first installment of the games and the first season of the series, it is seen that she is capable of defending herself when necessary.
However, in the second installment, this takes on a completely different facet. Driven by revenge, she kills people who beg for their lives, tortures them for answers, and puts the lives of her friends at stake for it.
This cruelty was already hinted at in the first season of the series: in the scene where Joel protects her from the soldier and kills him, she stares at him. However, she is not disturbed but looks at him with a kind of admiration. For this reason, I believe that HBO is ready to not only include this aspect in the second season but to make it a central theme.
