It won’t be long until the second season of the series adaptation of The Last of Us from HBO is released. The first episode of the new season will be released on April 13, 2025. With the remaining waiting time, alongside excitement, the expectations of MeinMMO author Caro are rising. She really enjoyed the first season but hopes that important scenes in the second season do not lose their power.
Warning: Spoilers! This list contains content that appears in The Last of Us, The Last of Us: Part II, and the first season of the HBO series.
The Last of Us has been one of the most formative video games for me for many years and is very dear to me. It was the first game I ever played on my first PlayStation (for which I was definitely old enough.) I played it for hours with my father and grew to love the story, the characters, and especially Ellie. Since then, the game has accompanied me daily with my first tattoo.
For this reason, the announcement of an adaptation in the form of a series initially worried me that it might ruin my beloved game (for whatever reason).
However, I surprisingly enjoyed the first season of the series! It was a different but not a bad experience and provided me with new insights and perspectives on various situations and characters. Bella and Pedro immediately captivated me, just as did the sets, costumes, and effects. They allowed me to experience the world of The Last of Us anew, for which I am very grateful.

Now the second season is just around the corner, and I am waiting for it this time with somewhat heightened expectation and a mix of excitement and concern (those who know, know). It was already clear in the first season that the series tells the story differently as a medium than a video game, which I also liked. Less action, but a bit more drama, more backstory; I was okay with that.
For this reason, I am curious whether some particularly intense moments in the series adaptation can have the same effect as they did in the game. I am particularly looking forward to the following moments.
The Horde of Infected in the Snow
Right at the beginning of the game, we see how a whole horde can develop from individual infected. Abby fights her way through the snow and the weather and has to fend off infected who want to attack her at various points. At first, this works quite well, but the situation escalates further.
While individual infected can be managed quite well, there is nothing to do against a horde but to run away.
In the trailer for the second season, you can already see some brief moments of this scene with masses of bodies approaching at high speed. Even in the first season, HBO proved that the masses of infected are really impressive. The actors were even provided with an infected boot camp
. Therefore, I am convinced that it will work just as well in the second season.
