5. The Enemy of My Enemy is a Friendly Fallen
This story is about: Most of the time, Guardians don’t ask questions and mercilessly eliminate every enemy. However, by sparing a Fallen Captain, we gained a lifelong ally: Mithrax.
Since then, Mithrax has shown up from time to time, even on the lore of exotic weapons like the Queenbreaker. However, his most famous appearance is in the acclaimed Mission Hour Zero. Here he helps us contain a SIVA outbreak.

Is the resolution coming soon? It is quite likely that we will see Mithrax again soon. After all, he helped us thwart Eramis’s schemes, who then fled to Europa and is plotting her revenge there.
It is to be hoped that Mithrax survives another appearance. So far, he has narrowly escaped his end each time. By the way, if you are wondering what the Fallen actually grunt, we have a translation for you.
4. Variks Goes from Ally to Traitor
This story is about: Players remember Variks from the Reef of Destiny 1. The Fallen, who even speaks our language, was a faithful servant of Mara and Uldren Sov and overseer in the Prison of Elders – where the super villains from Destiny are kept.
As it turned out in Destiny 2, Variks was responsible for the great prison break that led to Cayde’s death. He renounced his former master Uldren and now wants to restore the Fallen to their former glory.
Is the resolution coming soon? Variks’s and Eramis’s goals align. It seems very likely that the two Fallen will (at least partially) collaborate in the near future.
It is also conceivable that Variks will take the reins after Guardians eliminate Eramis in Beyond Light – thus becoming the Kell of Kells. However, he could also surprise us and make his Fallen house our allies.
3. The Lost Son Comes Home as a Necromancer
This story is about: When Guardians hear of Oryx’s son, images of Raid boss Crota come to mind. He has been through a lot and is cult-like. However, his brother Nokris is at least as interesting, having been cast out by the Taken King.
Nokris encountered players (only) as a strike boss and was thought to be defeated. Recently it was revealed that he is more or less still among the living and is working with Savathûn.
Is the resolution coming soon? Still in the ongoing season 11, Nokris should make a bigger appearance: he has been spotted as a secret boss.
His and Savathûn’s story is not yet finished. Due to his forbidden capabilities as a necromancer, Nokris will continue to serve his Taken aunt well – provided he survives another encounter with us.
2. A Queen Has Been Speaking in Riddles for Years
This story is about: Mara Sov is the queen of the Awoken and is intertwined in almost all Destiny stories. Since she fought against Oryx’s fleet, she was long thought to be dead.
In Destiny 2, she made her return and granted Guardians access to her throne room in the Dreaming City. But instead of answers, every visit there raised even more questions:
- Why has Mara known for so long about the arrival of the Pyramid ships?
- What did she negotiate with the Emissary of the Nine?
- Why does she choose similar words to the Exo Stranger?
- How did she know about the music of death in the Trials?
Is the resolution coming soon? Until we receive conclusive answers regarding Mara Sov, we will have to wait a while. While her presence in the Destiny narrative is all-encompassing, she always presents herself mysteriously, and this is not going to change anytime soon.
It seems very likely that the queen will answer the last question only with the major DLC Lightfall in 2022. Until then, you can decide what you think about the sexual innuendos surrounding Mara and Shaxx.
1. Will the Curse of the Dragon Ever Be Broken?
This story is about: When Forsaken opened the gates of the Dreaming City to fairyland, Guardians were enchanted. The endgame area houses many secrets and even the last dragon in the universe.
When Riven was slain in the “Last Wish” raid, it cast a curse upon the Dreaming City. Since then, this world has been in a time loop, undergoing a cycle of possession and corruption every 3 weeks. With each run, the power of the mysterious Savathûn grows.

Is the resolution coming soon? For over 2 years, players have been trying to break the curse. In November 2019, many were confident they could break the curse – But no, Savathûn and her daughter Dûl Incaru continue to wreak havoc.
In Season 11, Savathûn, along with Nokris, is making the player’s life difficult in the Interference Mission. However, a direct encounter is still a year away.
Recently, we learned that we will only confront the Witch Queen in the “Witch Queen” expansion in autumn 2021 – even though her eyes are already watching us closely.
