A very exciting change: Warzone is receiving a major graphics update and is switching to the engine of CoD: Vanguard.
It is still unclear what impacts this will have. Changes in movement are conceivable and the overall gameplay feeling could therefore differ significantly from the “old” Warzone. The effects of perks like “Ghost” could also change as a result.
Currently, a purely optical update is also possible. The Warzone will remain largely as you know it but look prettier and probably require less storage space due to “texture streaming”.
If you want to see some gameplay of the latest CoD, we will embed a video from the German CoD YouTuber “Fantou”:
4. Gameplay Adjustments Bring New Mechanics
Although not all the details regarding the graphics update and gameplay adjustments are known yet, the developers have already given a small insight. Here are the first adjustments:
- The Gulag gives you better weapons
- Loadouts can be purchased later
- You can walk through shallow water
- There are gas canisters and gas mask adjustments
- New contracts offer fresh mechanics
Additionally, the CoD creators have already talked about minor buffs and nerfs for equipment. It is known that the heartbeat sensor will remain in the game, meaning there is no complete shift to the equipment system of Vanguard.
You can read more about the changes in gameplay that we have prepared for you here:
5. About 40 New Weapons from Day 1
As with last year during the integration of Cold War, all new Vanguard weapons will be added to the game. These are nearly 40 firearms. Once the Pacific Update is live, you will be able to use the new weapons in the regular Battle Royale. Included are:
- 7 assault rifles
- 6 submachine guns
- 4 light machine guns
- 3 sniper rifles
- 3 marksman rifles
- 4 shotguns
- 5 pistols
- 4 rocket launchers
If you want to read more about the weapons of Vanguard and some tips on which guns you should prepare for Warzone, then check here:
- All weapons and the Vanguard content at release
- 5 strong weapons from CoD Vanguard that you should level up for Warzone now
- 3 weapons from CoD Vanguard that could be too strong in Warzone
6. Planes Make the Island Unsafe
Warzone is getting new vehicles and included are planes that you can control through the sky.
While the planes are not yet active in the regular Battle Royale, “dogfights” will also become part of the Battle Royale with the launch of Warzone: Pacific.
Appropriately, “anti-air trucks” are being added to the game. With these vehicles, you have an effective weapon against the deadly planes.
However, the new vehicles will be available exclusively in the “Vanguard Royale” mode at launch and it has not yet been confirmed that the planes will be present in the regular Battle Royale.
You can check out the first snippet of plane gameplay in the launch trailer of Caldera:
7. Vanguard Gets Its Own Game Modes
In addition to the standard Battle Royale, there are special modes tailored to the new Vanguard. At the start of Season 1, there’s the “Vanguard Royale”:
- Only weapons from Vanguard are allowed
- Planes and anti-air trucks are available
- “Modern” items are not allowed
The modes focus on the new content of Season 1 and the Pacific Update. Later, a modified version of Plunder is also expected in the game – “Vanguard Plunder”. So if you want to try out the new planes, check the Vanguard versions of the modes first.

8. Anti-Cheat Aims for a Secure Battle Royale
With the new anti-cheat system “RICOCHET”, Warzone aims to clean up and get a handle on issues with hackers and cheaters in the game. The system consists of 4 parts:
- Server-side analysis tools
- Improved investigation processes
- Increased account security
- Kernel driver on PC
However, the kernel driver won’t come until a later date.
Once the Pacific Update is completed, you will benefit from all parts of the new anti-cheat system and a kernel driver will then run in the background when you play Warzone on PC.
More background on RICOCHET and answers about the PC driver can be found in our overview article:
9. New Types of Events Announced
Not much is known about this yet. However, the developers are said to have more opportunities for creating and conducting special live events after the overhaul of the Warzone engine. One leak suggests a volcanic eruption (via Twitter).
There are supposed to be regular season events as well as limited-time events with special game modes. Whether the low content density from the first year of Warzone can be remedied in this way remains to be seen. However, the developers have made it clear that they now have more options and want to use them.
The first live event of Season 1 is indeed a holiday event. However, the details of this are not yet available.
10. Unresolved Questions: Next-Gen & FoV Slider
As the release approaches, questions about the console versions remain open:
- No clear statement for versions on PS5 and Xbox Series
- Unclear whether the FoV slider will come to consoles
Especially the issue of the FoV slider on consoles is very important to me personally and a version for the next-gen consoles would surely please many players. However, there are no fixed statements on this yet. As soon as there is new information, you will find it on MeinMMO.

On December 8, the big Pacific Update for Call of Duty: Warzone arrives. This is the largest update to the Battle Royale so far and includes a new map, fresh graphics, and a long-awaited overhaul of the anti-cheat system. MeinMMO provides you with a quick overview of the most important changes.
What’s going on? More than 1.5 years after the launch of the free Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone, the first big new map is coming: the Pacific volcanic island “Caldera”.
However, the so-called “Pacific Update” is more than just a content update. It is a realignment. Graphics, anti-cheat, gameplay mechanics – much in Warzone is being adjusted and to let you know what you’re getting into, we summarize the most important changes in a few lines and show you links with further information.
Update December 8 – 1:00 PM: The patch notes for the Pacific Update are live and the first gameplay of the new map can already be found.
It turns out that Warzone is not completely switching to the Vanguard engine and that the anti-cheat driver will come to us later. We have updated the information in the article.
If you want to know more about the update process and when Warzone will be unplayable for 12 hours, you can find all the important information here.
1. New Map “Caldera” with Fresh Setting
For the first time, Warzone switches its large map and moves from the gray Verdansk in the Cold War to the green island Caldera in World War II. The new map is hardly comparable to the old one – only in size do the vacation paradise and the Eastern Bloc city of Verdansk resemble each other.
Additionally, there is a small jump in time as it was with the introduction of “Verdansk ’84”. However, this time it goes to the year 1944.
But you don’t have to worry that your “modern” items will be worthless – all weapons from Cold War and CoD MW remain in the game and you can also continue to use your operators.
You can find more pictures, a size comparison, and the first trailer of Caldera in our article about the new map:
2. New Story Focused on “Nazi Hunt”
In the 6 shared seasons with Cold War, it was about the hunt for the top spy “Perseus”, who was also a theme in the Cold War campaign. We have summarized the season story for you here.
On Caldera, you will again hunt villains – this time, however, it is about Nazis. Some officials fled before the impending defeat of World War II and chose the picturesque Pacific island Caldera as their refuge.
An aged Captain Butcher (known from CoD: WWII) explained to the heroes from Black Ops in a bunker under Verdansk that his hunt began on Caldera together with Taskforce: Trident:
A second cinematic shows Captain Butcher along with 3 soldiers from Taskforce Trident on their way to Caldera. The uncomfortable trip shows that the island’s inhabitants are not particularly happy about the arrival of the special unit:
How things continue, you will learn only with the start of the first joint live season of Warzone and CoD: Vanguard.
