The developer of Love, Ghostie was finally able to release her game, which originally appeared on Steam, on the Switch as well. However, the title is rated 18+ here, due to a crucial checkbox being checked on a form.
What kind of game is this? In Love, Ghostie, you play as a ghost who matches the residents of a villa. As Cupid, we don’t shoot arrows, but arrange dates and give gifts. Over time, romances develop between the residents.
In a playthrough that is supposed to last around 3-6 hours, up to 6 couples can be matched. To see all the content, around 11 playthroughs are necessary.
On Steam, the title has been available since August 2024. It has also received a very positive rating with 90% recommendations (from 450 users), and recently the game even reached 97% with 14 reviews submitted.
On October 1, 2025, the release for Switch and Switch 2 took place. However, the title, which is available on Steam for ages 12 and up, suddenly becomes an adult game.
Sweet cozy game becomes an intimate dating simulator
Why is it rated 18+? As the lead developer explains on TikTok, her game was suddenly rated 18+ in Australia. To be released digitally on Switch, she had to fill out a form from the IARC (International Age Rating Coalition), through which the title receives an age rating in each country.
In this form, developers must indicate whether their title contains adult content, including violence, alcohol, or drugs. According to the developer, one of these points was dating, which she had to check off due to the premise of the game. She also had to tick a box regarding whether dating is a major part of the game.
As a result, the game was automatically rated “18+” in Australia. Behind the form is an AI and not a real person, as the developer explains.
The “most intimate” thing in the game is holding hands and cuddling between the cute little creatures. The relationships in Love, Ghostie are more on the emotional and not on the physical level.
Many parents agree with her, as even in the reviews on Steam, they write that it is a child-friendly dating simulation.
What does the developer think about it? The developer believes that there’s not much that can be done about it. She jokes with friends and acquaintances that her game is rated 18+ for emotional dating
.
She appeals once again to all players in Australia at the end of the video that her game really is child-friendly.
Interestingly, our MeinMMO author Cedric believes that cozy games are the better MMORPGs. After all, fun and crafting are a large part of such games. You can read here what other points he sees positively in cozy games: Cozy Games are the better MMORPGs and I almost believe it too
