Every year, Steam attracts with special sale events for big shopping sprees, even for Halloween. Traditionally, many horror titles are discounted and available at a great price.
We have selected five titles that are perfect for the spooky season. You have time until November 1st to make the most of it.
Don’t worry – not all of these are pure horror titles, so even those with a more sensitive disposition can have fun without having to cower under the quilt.
Dead by Daylight
What is Dead by Daylight about? In Dead by Daylight, you take on one of two roles, and depending on which it is, you experience a completely different game.
As the Killer, it is your task to find, hunt, and kill the four Survivors. To do this, you either have to knock them down or capture them with your abilities (bear traps, invisibility, teleportation, throwing axes). Then you hang their bodies on hooks and sacrifice them to the mysterious Entity. However, you don’t have much time because the Survivors are trying to escape and avoid your sacrifice.
As Survivors, you should stick together and try to repair 5 generators on a map and escape from the Killer. You can help other Survivors or leave them behind to buy more time to manage the next generator. Unlike the Killer, you play from a “third-person” perspective – you can look around corners and thus have a visual advantage over the Killer.
What does Dead by Daylight cost? The base game is currently priced at €9.99 and is a whopping 50% off. The various DLCs are also each 30% off. However, you don’t have to purchase these – most add-ons (like new Killers and Survivors) can be earned in the game without spending money.
Who is Dead by Daylight suitable for? Fans of asymmetrical games and anyone who has always wanted to stalk and kill people as Michael Myers.

Monster Prom
What is Monster Prom about? If you like monster characters and would rather think about dating than gruesome killing, then you should check out Monster Prom. In this multiplayer dating game, you take on the role of various monsters and try to secure a date for the prom.
Along the way, you experience different game phases and can calmly choose which steps to take:
- Do you seek out your crush on the sports field?
- Or hope to encounter the person in the library?
- Or would you rather seek out the sadistic cult of the crazy mermaid?
The special twist: In multiplayer, you can throw obstacles at each other or steal each other’s desired target. Thanks to many different events and absurd story outcomes, Monster Prom offers high replay value and is always good for a few laughs.
However: English language skills are required – so are teammates. Because alone, Monster Prom is rather boring; the fun lies in multiplayer.
What does Monster Prom cost? Monster Prom is only reduced by 15%, but at €10.19, it is still quite cheap.
Who is Monster Prom suitable for? Fans of visual novels and anyone looking for a “casual” game that can be played with a few friends (even on the couch)!

Darksiders II – Deathinitive Edition
What is Darksiders II about? In Darksiders II, you take on the role of Death, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. After the “End of Days” has come and the battle between Heaven and Hell is over, you try to find answers as to why your brother War even started the battle.
Along the way, you fight your way through a vast game world, collect gear like in an RPG, gain new skills, solve smaller platforming puzzles like in Zelda, and of course, slaughter hordes of demons, angels, and whatever else crawls and flutters between Heaven and Hell.
Even though the game deals with dark themes, it is not really a horror title. Action fans should get their fill here.
Besides that, now is the perfect time to play Darksiders II – because in a month, the sequel and thus the third part of the series will be released.
What does Darksiders II cost? The Deathinitive Edition of Darksiders II is currently 80% off and costs €5.99. If you enjoy action games with RPG elements, you can’t go wrong here.
Who is Darksiders II suitable for? Those who like games like Zelda, but would prefer more blood and action, and also want spoken words.

Hunt Showdown
What is Hunt Showdown about? If you enjoy hunting big monsters and want to take out other players on the side, then Hunt Showdown is a good choice. Alone or in pairs, you start on a large map and need to track down a creature that has a bounty on its head.
The fight against this beast is already tough enough, but that’s not all: other players also want the bounty and are not keen on sharing it with you. While you hunt, you must also eliminate other hunters to emerge as the victor in the end.
The fact that the whole world is populated by zombies and other undead creatures that are after your life certainly doesn’t make it easier. Cautious, strategic action is sometimes just as important as running wildly to escape an enemy. Particularly bitter: When you die, your character is gone. However, you retain a “player level” and thus some advantages for the next character.
What does Hunt Showdown cost? Currently, Hunt Showdown is 25% off, costing €22.49. Please keep in mind that the game is still in “Early Access”.
Who is Hunt Showdown suitable for? Those who like to be stealthy and fight for survival in a hostile environment with a comrade – and make a lot of cash in the process.

Darkest Dungeon
What is Darkest Dungeon about? A mansion deep in the woods has been cursed, and this curse is now plaguing the entire surrounding area. In a small village, you must assemble a party of heroes and clear the “Darkest Dungeon” piece by piece. Along the way, you find treasures and new equipment for your heroes – but also many dark creatures.
Gradually, the experiences of your characters take their toll. They can acquire negative traits such as “insanity” or “greed” and take loot for themselves. Recovery is only possible through punishment in the monastery, a night in the brothel, or a proper evening at the tavern. However, the next assignment awaits the next day with even stronger enemies.
Darkest Dungeon is a classic, turn-based RPG with many characters. However, all your heroes can permanently die if you are not careful. The difficulty level is sometimes quite high. Darkest Dungeon is perfect as a “side game” that you can play in small breaks.
However: If you have a low frustration tolerance, you should steer clear of this game. The heroes will die. Often.
What does Darkest Dungeon cost? With a price reduction of 70%, Darkest Dungeon currently only costs €6.89. For that, the game will entertain for many hours, so you can hardly go wrong.
Who is Darkest Dungeon suitable for? Fans of classic, turn-based RPGs who can also deal with deadly consequences.
