Valve released a new patch for Counter-Strike 2 on July 22. The patch included a change to Dust 2 that many players do not like.
What was changed? Valve made a small change to Dust: a few boxes were added at the CT spawn. These boxes now make it possible to take a shortcut to get to the “Catwalk” and the A-site faster.
Until recently, it was impossible to quickly reach the catwalk or A-site from the CT spawn over boxes or similar objects.
If players wanted to reach the catwalk or A-site quickly from the CT spawn, it could only be done by using a so-called “boost.” This is basically a shoulder boost: One player crouches so another player can jump on top of them. From their teammate’s shoulders, the player can then jump to the higher level.
How are players reacting to the change? There are mixed feelings. Some players really like the change because it allows beginners and solo players to rotate quickly from the CT spawn to “A” – without the help of randoms.
Part of the community, however, does not like it at all and reacts as if Valve has desecrated a historic monument or committed treason. Some of the reactions are listed below:
- COYGODZILLA: “The more I think about it, the angrier I am.”
- Loosecun: “They destroyed Dust 2.”
- williammorren: “I’m not a big fan, but I think it’s good that they’re trying to break up the outdated gameplay of Dust 2.”
- talhaONE: “They’re fixing a problem that doesn’t even exist.”
- Frequent_Try2486: “Shit, completely dumb change […]. I just played it, it completely destroyed the dynamics in the middle of Dust2.”
Others write short comments like “terrible” or “rip Dust2” [Rip = Rest in Peace]. However, very few articulate a precise reason for why they think the change is bad. Some complain that the map is now better for defenders (CTs).
But other players counter that attackers (Terrorists) have had the advantage on Dust until now. So the change could balance the map a bit.
Is the change only good for defenders? Not entirely. Some players also mention that lurking and late rotating as an attacker from the middle over the CT spawn to the A-site is now easier. This could occasionally work as a play.
We will probably have to observe for a few weeks or months whether the change proves to be good or bad and how it affects the win rates of attackers and defenders. Hopefully, the emotions of the angry players will calm down by then.
CS2 is currently receiving a lot of criticism from the community for various changes and the ongoing cheating problem, but according to the creator of Counter-Strike, Valve is doing a good job with the shooter: 2 students created the probably biggest shooter in the world – one of them says: He is glad he sold it
