It is now possible to link your Steam account with your PSN account. This is said to bring several advantages. For instance, there are in-game rewards for certain games. MeinMMO explains what it means.
Sony has announced that you can link your Steam account to your PlayStation account. This sounds great at first, but there is a catch.
This only works with certain games that you can also play on PlayStation. What this means for the future and what you gain from this linking will be explained to you on MeinMMO.
You will receive in-game rewards for certain games
What does linking bring me? Linking currently brings you mainly a few nice in-game rewards.
If you have purchased Marvel’s Spider-Man on Steam and linked your accounts, you can receive a few skins and two skill points. If you do not own the game, you obviously do not benefit from this (via steamcommunity.com).
This is how it works:
- Buy a suitable PlayStation game that can be played on PC, download it, and start it.
- During the first startup, you will be prompted to set your privacy options and log in to PSN.
- Enter your login ID and password.
- Select your communication and data settings.
- Alternatively, you can also link your game or account through the game’s menu.
In the future, more games on Steam might follow with rewards
Since Sony stated that it will bring more PlayStation-exclusive games to PC in the future, there will probably be more advantages for people who connect their accounts soon. For instance, Horizon: Zero Dawn can already be purchased on Steam as well.
However, you should not expect that Sony will bring all its exclusive titles to Steam anytime soon. Just last week, PlayStation head Herman Hulst stated that new Sony games will remain exclusive for a while for the PS4 and PS5 before they come to PC.
However, Sony also announced that it wants to release more than 10 live-service games by 2026. And since crossplay is expected to play a bigger role in the near future according to Sony, this connection between Steam and PlayStation might represent an important step.
However, not everything is going smoothly at PlayStation. Currently, there is strong criticism of the new loyalty program on PlayStation. It seems that people are openly favored, which many users dislike:
