New news about the upcoming Steam MMO Pax Dei were released at the PC Gaming Show. The game promises absolute freedom in its sandbox medieval world. It doesn’t matter if you are level 1 or level 100.
What is Pax Dei? Pax Dei is a sandbox MMO in a fantasy medieval setting. The game is being developed by Mainframe Industries. Pax Dei is their first game. The team consists of several veterans from major game companies such as Blizzard or Ubisoft and especially former employees of EVE Online, who significantly shape the game.
The game advertises its Social Sandbox
, which primarily aims to promote interaction between players and offers great freedom in interaction options.
MeinMMO spoke extensively in an interview with Senior UX Designer Jasmin Dahncke about Pax Dei and the model Valheim:
In Pax Dei, collaboration is key
While other MMOs base their content and options on the player level, according to developers in Pax Dei, the player’s level does not matter at all. You can do the same thing at level 1 as you can at level 60. The Co-Founder of Mainframe Industries talks about the cooperation between players that defines the game.
He compares his game to EVE Online and describes the player-driven economy
. All resources for building are collected by hand. Whether wood or ores for armor, these must be gathered and then processed. Everything is provided by the players.
Players are to be a central part of the economic chains. Veterans and newcomers are on equal footing and can all contribute. This way, veterans have a reason to interact with newcomers.

The story is also supposed to be based on the players. You play from the perspective of a villager in the medieval period. Fantasy elements focus on the true folklore of that time. Rituals and healing methods also relate to real rituals of the 13th century in Europe.
The stories are to arise from the interaction between players and their environment. Here too, the comparison to EVE Online is made. The community should be a driving force not only in gameplay but also in the world.
The further you move away from your village and step into the wilderness, the more dangerous and mystical your adventures will become.
A release date for Pax Dei is not yet known. The game is to be released on Steam.
Another survival MMO wants to redefine the genre with Will Smith.
