Microsoft has not disclosed sales figures for the Xbox One for some time. However, the analytics firm SuperDataResearch claims to have found that the Xbox One sells far less well than Sony’s Playstation 4.
Which console is more successful? Microsoft’s Xbox One or Sony’s Playstation 4? While Sony happily announces official sales figures, Microsoft has remained silent since early 2016 and only states the active users of Xbox Live. Is Microsoft trying to conceal the lack of success of its console?
According to Xbox chief Phil Spencer, definitely not. The number of active users is much more telling than raw sales. The latter continues to rise, while for some players, the console has been collecting dust in the closet for months. The number of users, on the other hand, better reflects reality, Spencer argues.
Reported Xbox One Sales Far Lower than PS4
Accordingly, the Xbox boasts a proud 47 million users. According to Sony, the Playstation 4 has been sold over 53.4 million times. However, the analytics firm SuperDataResearch has dived into the matter and provides different figures. According to their research, Sony may have sold around 55 million units.
Microsoft, on the other hand, is said to have sold only 26 million Xboxes, as SuperDataResearch claims. Thus, Microsoft’s console would be barely half as successful as the Japanese competition!
If these numbers are correct – and as stated, they are anything but official – then Microsoft is far behind the company’s original goal. According to GamePro, the US company initially aimed to sell 200 million units of the Xbox One.
