The ARPG Wuthering Waves recently had its big release. However, a player used a simple trick to catch a glimpse of future content. The community reacted amused.
What trick is it? Players found out that Wuthering Waves did not rely on a central server time but on the system clock of the individual player.
Therefore, the game could easily be tricked by setting the own clock a few weeks ahead, thus faking a later time to access unreleased content.
Here you can see a trailer for Wuthering Waves:
Players used the feature to try out an upcoming character
As reported by PCGamer, a Bilibili user Lù xiǎo xiǎo (路筱筱) was the first to draw attention to the exploit.
On reddit, the trick was shared by PisangMinyakRebus, who used the “game-breaking bug” to try out the upcoming character Yinlin in the trial stage already. The new character is actually only available from June 13, 2024.
How does the community react? The reddit users react humorously to the fact that the game could be fast-forwarded with such a simple trick.
Some remembered other games where this had also happened, while others can hardly believe that such a simple exploit is still possible today:
- “[…] This is the funniest bug I’ve seen in a long time. Changing the system date affects the content of a live service game.”
- “I still remember D3, when you could manipulate the auction house by changing the system time. This can even happen to the big guys like Blizzard.”
- “Bruh, are we back in 2010? lmao”
Does the exploit still work? Kuro Games responded and has already patched the exploit on the Chinese servers. There has also been an update for the European servers. It is likely that time traveling in Wuthering Waves has come to an end. But even if the exploit still works, you should not apply it, as an account ban cannot be ruled out.
