The restored coffer keys from World of Warcraft should not be spent yet. We will reveal what the keys are all about.
In The War Within, the new expansion of World of Warcraft, there are a whole lot of new items. Some are important currencies that you can also spend “on the side” without realizing what you are actually doing.
One of these new currencies is the “Restored Coffer Key”. You should hold on to these for a while.
What are these keys? With the “Restored Coffer Key,” you can open an additional reward chest at the end of the respective depth in “Bountiful Delves.” You can identify which depths are currently generous on the map by the opened, golden gate of the respective depth.
You get the keys from the various weekly chests that you can obtain through quests or “special assignments” in the different areas. You can get up to 4 keys per week from the chests. More are possible if you complete world quests that can also grant key fragments as rewards.
Why should you save the keys? The reason is that the depths of The War Within currently have a cap of level 3. However, the loot you receive from the coffer key chests scales with the difficulty of the completed depth.
This means: If you use a key in a level 3 depth, you will receive a significantly worse item than if you use the key in a level 8 depth.
The recommendation is therefore: Keep all keys until Season 1 has started and only then open chests at higher depth levels – preferably the most challenging ones you can master. At level 8, there are rewards with an item level of 603 – therefore significantly higher than anything you can currently get from the depths.
Is it bad if you’ve already spent the keys? No, it’s really not “bad”, at least if you don’t place a high value on absolute min-maxing. Even though the keys can only be farmed in limited numbers, the disadvantage is relatively low if you’ve already spent a few. However, if you want to maximize your yield from the depths as soon as the season starts, you should hold on to the keys for a few more days.
If you have already spent the keys, that is no reason to cry – unlike Anduin, who regularly does this and it annoys some people a lot.
