So that his father can still play World of Warcraft, the son builds him a custom controller – and it works!
MMORPGs are not for everyone. Those who have never played anything more than Solitaire may be overwhelmed by the many abilities of an MMORPG like World of Warcraft. But not only the complexity of the game can be a problem for some – sometimes it’s simply the shape of their hands.
If someone has too large fingers, they can hardly manage the small keys of a standard keyboard.
It is the same case for Reddit user uknowitstrue.
Since his father claims to have “hands like shovels”, a regular keyboard is out of the question. He would always press three to four keys at the same time, which would probably cause a lot of chaos in World of Warcraft.
However, since his father enjoys playing a round of World of Warcraft with him, even at over 80 years old, a different solution had to be found.
uknowitstrue did not hold back and quickly built a custom controller for his father, with extra large buttons.
The layout of the gamepad was designed to match the various buttons in World of Warcraft. Because the standard interface of WoW allows only two action bars, the interface add-on Bartender 4 had to help, allowing the action bars to be moved freely and arranged into blocks. A press of the corresponding button triggers the respective ability, which the father can configure freely.
According to uknowitstrue, his father now has several characters “over level 60” – so it doesn’t seem to be about really active playing in endgame, but simply about a shared hobby between father and son. A lovely thing!
The gamepad may remind one a bit of a senior phone now, but it serves its purpose.
